FFFC

Spill it ladies, let's hear those confessions.

Re: FFFC

  • I really, REALLY think that it should be illegal to drive while your puppy is in your lap and looking out the window. I think it's an accident waiting to happen. I'm pretty sure you can't see clearly out of your window and pretty sure that you can't see your side mirror.
People who drive with their pets unsecured, whether riding in their laps or not, are morons. What's going to happen in the case of an accident?? That pet is going to become a projectile like any unbelted human would be!! I can't believe people are still so ignorant.

And the ones that drive around with the pet in their laps are the worst of the bunch.

  • @bridget0117  I don't think I've ever seen someone do that!  I agree, it does sound dangerous.  I suppose people who do this have smaller dogs?  I have this image of trying to keep my 1-year-old lab in my lap while driving, and it's hilarious :)

  • @lynn0514, hahaha yeah they are smaller dogs. I'm surprised you haven't seen this. It's just crazy to me. Like what if you need to change lanes quickly because the person driving next to you didn't see you??!! It's not like you're going to throw the dog quick to check your blind spot.

And @luckyangel07, I agree! If this person crashes I imagine that poor puppy is going to get seriously injured!! Also, I just love how much you care about animals :)
  • I saw a cat in a woman's lap once.......I didn't know whether to laugh or yell at the lady through the window!
This is another fantastic image. My cat freaks out in the car - trying to carry him in my lap would be epic!

  • my MIL is a vet and i've heard horror stories about dogs in the car when accidents happen.
  • Guess it wasn't an unpopular opinion ;)

My FFFC is that my anxiety is a million times worse when I am with my daughter. I was driving in the ice today with her and I was so nervous I was almost sick and then I dropped her off and drove more in the ice and I was only mildly nervous. It makes me feel bad that my anxiety is only out of control when I have my daughter but I know it is justbecause I love her so much I cannot imagine if anything happened to her.

  • I totally understand @wiggyslilsis. It snowed yesterday morning and I haven't left my house because I'm scared to crash and that she will get hurt.
  • @bridget0117 It's a law here in California that dogs have to be secured in your vehicle. I actually was pulled over a few years back from having my dog on my lap. Let me explain that though...

My dog was sitting in the passenger seat all calm, then I made a u turn at a stoplight and he got nervous and jumped into my lap. This happened before I bought him a seat belt. Instead of throwing him back into his seat mid turn I decided to wait until I got to the next stop light. Well a cop already saw me...He didn't give me a ticket, just told me not to do it again.

Funny moment, when the cop came over to my passenger window my dog got all excited and was jumping up to smell him. The officer was fine with it even though I apologized. Maybe that's why he didn't give me a ticket. Lol

  • @sgautschi, I'm glad it's a law in Cali. A lot of people here do it and I've never seen anything done about it. But, I am glad you didn't get a ticket :)
  • @madeline10L, do you still do this while Maggie is in the SUV? I ask because since having Isis I don't take my dog anywhere if Isis is going with me because my dog sheds A.LOT!! I'm scared hair will get all over DD. So, I'm thinking of getting an SUV soon and hoping to transport both of them at the same time and I wanted some insight lol :)
  • I read "with my dog in the trunk" and was like woah...and then I saw SUV and was oh okay. Still a good idea to restrain them though because when I got in a wreck in my little SUV the stuff in the back went everywhere. I got hit in the back of the head with smarties because I had an open bag in the trunk of the SUV. (I was a teenager...my car was full of shit!)

  • @madeline10L, yeah since I have a 4door sedan I don't take her anywhere if DD is with me. I used to take my dog to My mom's all the time because I felt bad leaving her alone in an apartment if we would be gone for several hours but I think we might buy a house before I pay off my car and get an SUV. And once we have a house she can stay and play in the backyard all day long. Lol.

Sorry for rambling :( but thanks :)

At some point, dog hair will get on your baby. Your baby will probably survive. My son is crawling now and in spite of almost constant sweeping, there is still dog hair on our floors (we have a Husky and a Lab who both shed a ton), and inevitably my son is covered in dog hair, just like my husband and I. It's a fact of life when you own a dog who sheds.

That's true. I just worry since sharpei hair Is so rough and harsh I'm scared it will irritate her skin. When I touch my dog my skin gets little bumps because her hair is so harsh on my skin. I just want her to be older to see how she will react to the hair instead of only being 2 months.

I know I may be overreacting lol I just worry a lot :(

yup. It comes with the territory and actually I've read that it helps with allergies as in babes that grow up with pets have less allergies.

  • @wiggyslilsis, I'm not saying it's funny you were in an accident but it's kinda funny that you got hit in the head by a smarties. Lol. I love smarties and I could see that happening to me. :|
  • And once we have a house she can stay and play in the backyard all day long.
NO! It is not a good idea to leave your dog outside unattended. Your yard might be fenced, but that doesn't mean the dog isn't going to try (and many succeed!) to jump the fence, especially if something catches her attention. My aunt and uncle's dog can easily leap their 6-ft fence and take off around the neighborhood. Not to mention how many dogs love to dig, and just tunnel their way out of backyards.

Insect bites and stings happen to, and you never know if your dog could have an allergic reaction. Zoey was stung by something while we were out in the yard with her the first month we had her. It swelled up a lot, but thankfully, we were home to keep an eye, and if anything worse happened, we'd have been there to take action.

Lastly, people as assholes. Your dog could easily be outside barking her head off, annoying neighbors, who could then decide it's a great idea to just dump something poisonous over the fence (don't be skeptical, it's been reported). Other people have no problem with finding out there's a dog unattended in the backyard and going in and stealing it, for God only knows what reasons.

The list goes on. It's one thing to let the dog hang out in the backyard when you're home and just take a peek outside now and then to see that everything is okay. But when you're not there, you have no idea what could happen, and you wouldn't want to come home to find your dog missing, injured, or suffering an allergic reaction that could be life threatening.

Sorry this got long, but I can't stand people talking about just leaving their animals outside while they're gone.

  • @vitan, I've heard that too. I dont mind having a dog with my baby girl in the same house or the same car but once we have a bigger car. My car now is a 4door sedan and my dog shakes a lot, especially in the car. If I put them together in my back seat my DD would literally end up covered in hair. Once I get an SUV and can sit them separately then I don't mind taking them together somewhere.
  • @bridget0117 I get ya. I also had a sedan and being that I have a monster for a dog, I rarely took both of them in the car together. In fact, maybe I never did until we got the van. Not only would he not fit but I wouldn't put my dog and baby alone in an unpredictable state.

  • @luckyangel07, I actually didn't mean on leaving her outside all day long. I was just saying lol. I actually hate people who leave dogs outside all year long. One of my mom's neighbors has a dog that had a baby not that long ago and the mom and baby would be outside even on days it snowed :( .

While we lived with my mom we would let her out to play for a few hours in the morning and one morning while being out for maybe 15 minutes she went up to my mom's window barking and crying. Her face and body was full of little bumps, she swelled up like crazy and had to be taken to the vet.

I would die if anything happens to my dog. She's also my "first born" and I love her a lot. I just meant that she could play out side (while we are home) and get tired and then sleep inside until we get back. Something she can't do at our apartment.

Also, I wouldn't trust leaving my dog outside for hours alone, she thinks she will someday catch birds and squirrels. Lol.
  • This won't make me any friends...
I think bigger pregnant gals (like myself when pregnant) should get into full panel maternity clothes right away. It makes your belly look pregnant and not just 'rolls'. When I was trying on the half panel bs I just looked fat, full panel and I was looking pregnant and not just like a Rollie pollie.
I think bigger gals DO show sooner and can dress accordingly. Belly band is a waste.

I guess it's illegal to not have them tethered in open areas (truck bed) but they are trying to pass laws that would require restraint in the vehicle. Here's an article:

  • I can't stand the people that end up sitting next to me on the train ride home most of the time. We've stopped at several stations, half the seats are empty now, but the vhick who sat down next to me can't be bothered (or is too oblivious) to get up and move to an empty seat. No, apparently she'd still rather sit right next to me in our little two-seat bench. Ugh!!

  • I have a baby shower coming up for a family member's on again off again SO. I'm urked because her registry is so outlandish and ridiculous price wise that I can't help but side eye her. She's having multiples and registered for crazy things like a stroller that cost well over $500. I don't get it! When I registered I made sure to be very cost conscious of peoples pocket books. You can be stylish and get great things for economical prices. Not only that. Her registry had under 50 items on it. There are 70 to 90 guests invited, half of which don't even know her but know a parent of one of them. We don't live in a rich community where everyone has deep pockets. If she had been more reasonable she would of gotten a lot more.

I can't decide if they intentionally registered for expensive things in hopes of getting money and gift cards or if she really is that clueless on how tacky and gold digger her registry makes her look.

Speak sweetly so that if you ever have to eat your words, they don't taste bad.

We registered for everything we wanted, despite the price. I thought of it sort of as just a list of the things we had researched and decided on--including stuff we didn't expect people to buy us, such as our a $450 stroller. I don't see a problem with registering for expensive stuff. You don't have to buy it! That being said, she should have had cheaper items on her registry that people could actually afford.

According to Baby Bargains and moms of multiples message boards, multiples tend to get more use out if their strollers than singletons (even compared to 2+ siblings of different ages) and the cheaper versions generally don't last as long and end up needing to be replaced.
    image
  • Multiples are expensive, and I love my stroller (3 people went in on it). Maybe she's hoping for that? In any case, I had inexpensive things on there too.
