Re: CPT: brand of diaper

  • We've had really good luck with pampers Swaddlers sensitive for both kids and love the wetness indicator stripe - haha.

Be careful on how many diapers you stock up on though since you wont really know how many of each size you need. DD was in newborn for a month, but DS was out of them before a week was up and probably could have used size one from the get go. Same was true of when they switched to size 2 and 3....

  • We've used Pampers Swaddlers as well and also like the wetness indicator.  We've never had any issues with rashed or anything with Pampers.  If you do stock pile though, I would suggest only opening what you need.  As you move through the diapers, places will take back unopened boxes and yo ucan just exchange as needed.

  • I figured I'd just tape the receipt to each box in case I need to exchange. I haven't bought any newborn ones yet but I have 3 boxes of size 1 and 2 boxes of size 2. All different brands as I've received them as gifts.

  • I alternate between pampers swaddlers and target brand. Whatever is cheaper.

I never used NB diapers and b was 5lb9oz at his smallest. The hospital used size one on all babies (although I'm sure they had smaller sizes for premies). I figured, if it was good enough for the hospital, it is good enough for me.

  • I got size one and two as gifts but no NB, which is why I figured I would just use what I had.

  • I started with pampers because that is what the hospital sent home and people bought us. They were good but the most expensive around here and neither DH or I could stand the smell of them. So we used some Huggies since they also have the wetness indicator.

Once she was out of size one we switched to Luvs which worked well until she started moving around at like 8 months or so because they leaked. So we switched back to Huggies.

Now we use Huggies snug and dry. They are the most cost effective, DD doesn't have a reaction to them, and they don't leak with her as a squirmy toddler.

Also, we don't have a target nearby so we can't use up&up regularly. We did get some as gifts (we got like 8 boxes and 5 plastic packs of diapers as gifts) and they were okay.

Oh and when we realized what we would need we took all those crazy amounts of diapers (except one box/pack of each size) to Walmart and they took them all with no receipt and gave us a gift card with the money on it and we used that card to buy diapers with for a while!

  • Yeah, I've heard Wal-Mart is good about returning things, but I like to avoid that place like the plague.  It's always so crazy around here.  And I use Amazon Prime/Mom subscribe and save (plus they have coupons in addition occassionally that you can clip) and get them cheaper that way, but obviously makes returning them - at least returning to where I bought them, harder.

  • That makes sense @bobcee I am so rural that the closest supermarket/department store is a half hour away and it is Walmart. We have to drive an hour to get to anything better. I like the idea of doing it online though...do you have to pay lots in shipping? That is why I don't do more online.

  • It depends on your baby. Cora has chunky legs and I like huggies the best but store brand work fine too.

  • Oh Ava Nichol has chunky legs too and we prefer Huggies. I bet that does make a difference!

I think you just have to try different kinds until you find what works.

  • Target up&up we use for nights, they leak through everything else! I think luvs are crap.

I'm going to take a look and if target is cheaper than Costco, I'm making the switch!

Pampers when she was a newborn/infant. Now she's been in Luvs since size 2 no complaints at all. She's never leaked out of a Luvs or had a poosplosion. Huggies were awful for us.

ETA: She wears Pampers extra protection overnight.

When you join Amazon Prime, you don't pay shipping.  It's free two day shipping on anything that is fulfilled by Amazon.  It's $79 per year to join and then you can join Amazon mom for free and do subscribe and save to save an additional 20% off baby items and off other items if you have more than 5 items per month.  If you have less than 5, you still get the 20% for baby stuff but I believe only 5% or something like that on the other items you have for the month.

We use it for diapers, wipes, diaper genie refill bags, breastmilk storage bags, prenatal vitamins, and then things like lotions or whatnot.  You can even do things like tp or whatever else on subscribe and save.

And I don't know how it compares exactly, but this month my 144 Pampers Swaddlers sensitive were regularly $47.19 at Amazon, with my subscribe and save I got $9.44 off, then they had a coupon I clipped (you need to check occassionally for these, but once you clip them it will save it and apply it to your next order) for an additional $2.50 off, so my total before tax was $35.25 and $38.60 after tax.  It came to about $.24 per diaper.  The regular swaddlers are a bit cheaper and there's obviously other brands as well.

I love that they are delivered right to my door and I don't need to worry about going out to get them.  You set the frequency you want them delivered as well (so once a month, once every 3 mo, etc...)

The $79 is worth it for us for the amount of stuff we buy from Amazon and the free shipping alone.

  • @ wiggyslilsis -

I just checked and the subscribe and save price for size 3 Huggies Snug and Dry is $36.38 for 222 diapers, plus there's a $2 coupon to clip right now so it's be $34.38 before tax or about $.15 per diaper.  From what I can see, Wal-Mart is $.17 per diaper right now.  Of course this doesn't take into account the initial $79 fee to join, but you probably spend that in gas over the year anyways.

  • Pampers Swaddlers for us. The blue indicator line rocks. (Or if you're my DH, "When the mountains are blue, it's ready!" Like Coors Light. Lol)

Haha - love it.  Delilah even knows when she sees Zack's diaper that the blue line means he needs to be changed and tells us.

  • @bobcee that is awesome! I might have to talk DH into signing up :) we are no where near potty training so it should be useful for a while at least with the diapers and I just paid about $38 for a box of size 4 Huggies snug and dry 144 pack so that would definitely save money.

@wiggyslilsis - I believe they also have a free trial period of 30 days so you can sign up and see what you think ahead of time.

We find ourselves getting so much from there because we'll forget something at the store and don't feel like going back out and be like, well we can just get it from Amazon and it will be here in 2 days. Better than dragging both kids out again. And often times cheaper.

  • Huggies suck butt. They leaked on us every freaking time. The fit on them was very poor. We love Pampers when we travel, but cloth diaper the rest of the time.

  • I am sad that Huggies sucked for so many people because they are literally the only ones that don't leak for us. Except when DH puts her diaper on and accidently tucks half on her butt...then it leaks.

  • Both my sister and my SIL swear by Luvs.. a mom friend of mine swears by Up & Up. I think it all depends on your kid for some odd reason... we have an assortment of diapers from H's diaper party, I'm pretty sure we'll be trying every brand.
