Christmas Baking

I have never done it; but a friend from work wants to get together and so some holiday baking. What cookies/treats do you make at this time of year?
Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

  • I make lots of cookies this time of year. I bake sugar cookies, glitter balls, candy cane cookies, cranberry coins, and I will probably attempt gingerbread this year.

  • The ladies of my family all get together for holiday cookie baking. We make spritzes (my fave!!), ginger cookies, what I like to call nut balls (fluffy little ball-shaped cookies with crushed pecans), and anise cookies. It's an all-day affair and we make dozens and dozens of cookies to split amongst us all.

  • My mom, MIL, and I do this every year, and it's a blast!  AKA, we drink lots of wine while baking and the last cookies to be decorated end up inappropriate.

We make spritz, sugar, PB Kiss, thumbprints, Holiday M&M cookies.  Then we also make drunk bars (creme de menthe), dog turds, fudge, and toffee.

I do sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies usually.  My Mom makes amazing oatmeal raisin cookies that I might try to make for myself this year too.

Last year Dh and I hosted a cookie baking party.  We provided the core ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, milk and eggs and then each of our friends brought over recipes and any other ingredients they needed for a cookie or holiday treat.  We spent the evening baking and eating cookies then at the end of the night each person got to leave with a party bag full of a variety of freshly baked goodies along with a bunch of different recipes.  It was so messy but so fun!

  • @poppies717 Wow, those glitterballs look amazing! I've never heard of them. I might try making them because my MIL has to be gluten free and I would think they would be gluten free.

The only Christmas baking tradition is my grandmother makes homemade hard candy (which DH goes crazy for) and puppy chow similar to this http://www.momswhothink.com/easy-recipes/puppy-chow-recipe.html

I love this idea! Another idea that my friends have done in the past was a cookie exchange. Each person brings several dozen (however many people are attending) of their favorite cookie that they baked to share. Then, it reduces the stress of making several different types of cookies.

  • We always host a cookie baking party like Xan's. This year I know people are planning to do: buckeys, sugar cookies, snickers surprise cookies, Oreo truffles, sea salt caramels, chocolate chip cookies, rolo/pretzel things, dipped pretzels, wedding cookies and candied pecans & almonds. I think this is the best way to do holiday baking, we always end up with soooo much and have a blast doing it!

  • I make peanut butter balls, peppermint patties, shortbread, cranberry and pistachio shortbread, pepparkakors, peppermint butter cookies shaped like candy canes, and ginger sparklers. Iusually organize a cookie exchange at work and everyone in it makes tonns of chocolatey things so I don't.  This year I am not doing the exchange so I am excited to try some new recipes.

    I'm thinking of trying these.

  • @barefootbluejean204 - I don't know anyone GF that I make cookies for, but the glitter balls are to die for! The ginger frosting is sooooo good. I didn't think I'd like them, but they're my favorite! I get all the decorating sugar at Michael's.

  • As a kid, with my mom we used to make peanut butter cups, my Granny's peanut butter fudge, sugar Christmas tree cookies, these nutty balls, lol that sounds funny...  Peanut brittle.  Omg, haven't done this in years.  I should do this this year.  Have my sisters over and do this with lots and lots of wine.  That could be fun...
