Re: Book Club Monday

  • I started The Dream Thieves this morning, but only got about 25 pages in.

I hit my goal sometime in the wee hours last night (thank you pregnancy insomnia) of 75 books!  I don't plan to up my goal again.

Looking at your siggy I don't think that is actually why you were up late reading.

I'm still reading The Edge Of Always I like it but it's just not grabbing me.  I have to read the rest of this book and then 5 more to make my goal.  I doubt that will happen, but I can't be too upset, it's more than I used to read.

  • Has anyone read The Paris Wife? I started the book months (and months LOL) ago and got almost 1/2 way through, but it's SO BORING! I kept picking up on foreshadowing and thought that it was going to get really juicy soon...but it just didn't. Can anyone tell me if it's worth finishing?

I haven't been reading lately, I read science stuff all day long and then don't feel like reading again when I get home LOL. The Paris Wife didn't help that situation, but I'm looking for a good book to take my mind off of this Ph.D. finishing nonsense LOL!

  • @nic12184 What kind of books do you typically read?  I'm guessing you're looking for a quick easy read right, like something YA?  What books have you really enjoyed?
  • Yes, quick easy reads are much appreciated! By the end of the day, my brain can't handle any more complicated reading material LOL!

The last few books that I've read and have really enjoyed were The Hunger Games trilogy, Eat Pray Love, and Michael J. Fox's book Always Looking Up. I don't usually have a specific genre that I enjoy, it just has to keep me interested and entertained LOL!

  • I tried to keep busy reading over Thanksgiving break! I'd love to make my goal for the year, but I don't think it's going to happen. I still have 17 books left to reach it...oh well. I finished Through the Ever Night and I read The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. It was good! I read If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I got choked up a couple of times! I'm now reading Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor and am thoroughly enjoying it!

  • I'm still reading name of the wind - Patrick rothfuss. Still good, but I'm ready to finish.

Started listening to dreamfever - Karen Moning (fever #4). Didn't get far, the audio sounded fuzzy but I think it was because I'm sick.

  • Got through Catching Fire and Mockingjay over Thanksgiving. I started Divergent on the way back from Michigan, but got distracted since the rest of the family were telling stories most of the car ride home.

  • @nic12184 I recommend the Divergent series if you liked the Hunger Games.  Otherwise the Delirium series is also popular.  I'm yet to read them but The Vampire Academy books are highly recommended as well.  Anyone else have recs?

FYI Amazon is selling Beautiful Disaster for $1.99.  I picked it up, even though I vowed to not buy another book this year.  I know whenever I say that it's going to be a broken promise..

    Beautiful Disaster yet?!?!?! ahhhh!!!

I love the Vampire Academy series. Right now I'm totally digging the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series...not very predictable, which I love!

  • I'm reading the 2nd book of the Fire and Ice series (Game of Thrones series). The first book was really good and I read in it in a week! I've never even seen the show.

  • YES YES YES BEAUTIFUL DISTASTER!!!  I love a good train wreck!

I also enjoy Vampire Diaries!  second book was way better than the first, and I have the 3rd on hold.

I really enjoy the Blackdagger brotherhood books.  They are quick reads!  Love them!  I thik I'm going to read the 6th one next.  (pst I have all the ebooks if you want them).

Dilirium is good, but I didn't like the 2nd or 3rd book AT ALL.

  • I am reading Insurgent. I didn't finish The Dinner before I had to return it to the library. Now I am on a waiting list to get it back. Lol

  • I actually bought Hillary Clinton's book Living History last night...I've always wanted to read it, and it was only $6 for the Kindle edition for my iPad. I read the first 2 chapters last night. I'm a very proud liberal democrat and a huge Hillary fan. My mom has actually met her twice and has a signed copy of the book, but she doesn't let anyone touch it haha!

I'll look into your suggestions when I finish this one. Thanks!
