best/worst read in November

Best and worst read for the month and why:

Not a stellar month for me...

Best- Eleven Days by Lea Carpenter. Refreshing and kept me in suspense. I wanted more character development though.

Worst - And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. Just so disappointing. Obviously rushed to print.

Re: best/worst read in November

  • I only read two books this month, but both were good:

    Eleanor & Park- 5 stars

    Just One Year- 4 stars

Best was a tie between Tell the Wolves I'm Home and Where'd You Go Bernadette?. Both were 5 stars.

Worst was Heat Wave. 2 stars.

ETA: I reserve judgment also based on the end of Fangirl. Right now it's a solid 4 stars but based on the end may get bumped to 5 and get added to the best list above. I have about 60 pages left and will finish tonight at some point.

ETA 2: Just finished Fangirl and it's remaining a 4 star. If I didn't like it so much up to the last 15 or so pages, I'd probably actually bump it down. :(

  • My best was Lost and Found by Jacqueline Sheehan. It was my only five-star book this month.

My three worst were not even that bad. I gave three stars to Return to Promise and Caroline's Child by Debbie Macomber, as well as to The Cowboy's Christmas Miracle by RaeAnne Thayne.

  • Best (not including reread of Divergent) is Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss and the Musical Rent by Anthony Rapp.  It was really good!

Worst:  Allegiant.  It was just.. meh.. very disappointing final book in a series I had really enjoyed so far.  Had it been a standalone, I probably would have abandoned it.

  • I didn't read a bad book this month although I only got through 3 books...and half of Dragonfly in Amber...

    I gave 5 stars to:
This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales (awesome read, I think a lot of people here would really enjoy it!)
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (maybe it should be 4 stars, but I still really enjoyed it!)

    4 stars to:
The Round House by Louise Erdrich

  • I liked all of the books I read this month.  I'd say worst was Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.  It wasn't unenjoyable, just not very original (though I kind of expected that).  Best was NOS4A2, hands down.  It was fantastic!

  • The only book I read in November was HP and the Deathly Hallows and I finished that weeks ago. I'm almost finished now with Blood Brothers (Sign of Seven book 1) by Nora Roberts. I'm enjoying it too, though not as much as Deathly Hallows.

  • I can't believe it's December already!

Best: Eleanor & Park (5 stars).  I thought this book was so beautifully written and real and I loved the characters.  I honestly didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

Worst: Beautiful Disaster (3 stars).  I felt conflicted over this one.  I didn't particularly enjoy the story or the characters or anything really, but yet I couldn't look away.  I originally planned to give it 2 stars, but then raised my rating just because I was interested enough to blow through it quickly.

  • Best: Someday, Someday, Maybe

Worst: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - I may have liked this better had I read it, the narrator in the audiobook was awful.

  • Best: Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson #3) - 4 stars

  • Best: Hopeless by Colleen Hoover.  I could not put it down!

Worst: Tied between Allegiant and Neverwhere.  Allegiant for the reasons everyone says and Neverwhere because it just wasn't my cup of tea.  I think the writing and story were good, I just didn't like it.  Sorry Gaiman fans.

  • I actually had a very good reading month in November.

Best: Probably Inner Harbor by Nora Roberts or The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

Worst: I didn't read anything that I didn't like but I guess I would pick The Host. I usually don't watch the movie before I read a book but I had watched this with the kids a few months ago and I had a really hard time getting into the book because I kept comparing it to the movie.

  • Best: Doctor Sleep, 5 stars, it was just amazing!

Worst: After Dead, 1 star, I don't even know why I bothered with this book, I had hoped for some redemption but nope.

  • Best - Champion (Legend #3) by Marie Lu.

Worst - It was actually a really good reading month.  My least favorite was Me Before You. I wanted to throw my eReader against the wall at the end.  There was a theme that was pushed at the reader, but then part of the book completely negated that theme, and it made me mad/sad.  (I actually wrote my own, brief, alternative ending if anyone cares to read it! LOL) The book did make me think, so I will give it that.

  • Best: Me Before You - 5 stars

Worst: Sentinel (Covenant #5) - 2 stars. I was really looking forward to the conclusion of this series and it was such a let down.

  • Best - Shatter Me by Tehereh Mafi and Champion by Marie Lu - both 5 stars.

Worst - Where there's a Will, there's a Way by Nora Roberts - I gave it 3 stars, which isn't bad, and I was in the mood for some mindless fluff and this delivered exactly that.

@Stefibeth- I think a lot of us felt the same way about Beautiful Disaster - It was most definitely NOT exceptional writing or a spectacular story, or even a good story on a difficult subject.  I did read it in one sitting, which made me rate it higher than I would have.  The second book, Walking Disaster, tells the same story from his POV, with some extra in the beginning and at the end, so you can find out how the story ends if you're interested.

@WillyH19 - It really sucks about the narrator.  This is one of my favorites, I absolutely adore Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - although I have yet to see the movie.

  • Best - The Last Summer by Judith Kinghorn

Worst - The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin.  I have no idea why I couldn't get into this book but it was so boring.

  • I finished only 2 books: A Feast for Crows, and Allegiant. I gave Allegiant 3 stars, and 2 to Feast for Crows. (Note, I am normally VERY generous with the stars :) ) So Allegiant is my best book by comparison :) I didn't like FfC, because i felt like NOTHING happened in that book, compared to others in the series. I am reading The Dance with Dragons, and I can certainly see how the 2 were one book, before they were split up.
