Did anyone shop Black Friday?

I was in no way going out yesterday or even early this morning, but I did go out late morning/early afternoon and still got some deals.  The crowd wasn't bad at all the time we went.  I got a cute sweater for myself at Express for 1/2 off, long sleeve t-shirts for DD at old navy for 1/2 off, a shop vac for my dad 1/2 off at lowes, 3.99 DVD's for DD and DH at best buy, earring/bracelet set for one of my friends for $10 at charming charlie.  What deals did you guys score?

Re: Did anyone shop Black Friday?

  • I just met family for lunch and walked around the mall afterwards. All I bought was a few ornaments but they weren't a special deal or anything. :)
  • I went to Joann's and got a zipper for my winter coat for $5.00, no discounts.  Then I decided since our LO was getting restless I would take him out to get him a winter hat and boots.  I got a little discount on the clothes and boots.

I usually don't do the Black Friday thing since the discounts are not that good on most of the things that I would want to buy.  Also, my family has decided to give baked goods to the adults.  MW's family does family drawings for gift giving for all of the children and the adults who want to exchange gifts.
  • Noooooo....Trying to save money. It also helped that I had a paper to work on :) Last year we did get a new mattress so that was a pretty big expense. I would never be one of those insane people that go in the morning or night before and wait in line all night. I hate crowds and the cold so it's a big no no to me!

  • I skipped this year since we are visiting family in sunny FL :) I do have a 30% off code to B&N online, so I may use that on a book for my dad if I remember. Many of my presents this year will be from etsy, and I should order those soon since they take a while.
  • I burned it up.

H and I had some gift cards to bed bath & beyond leftover from our wedding so we used the 20% off entire purchase coupon and got a vellux blanket for our bed, a pasta maker (my xmas gift from H), a couple holiday candles on clearance, and a new cutting board.  We spent less than $25 total on that trip (thanks to the gift cards, which I've been carrying around since April).

And then I did Christmas cards and photobooks from snapfish - maybe 70% off?

And I bought a live wreath and 5 poinsetias at Home Depot for $10.  The wreath needs to be jazzed up a bit, but my mom is getting rid of a lot of her holiday ribbon, etc. this year so I'm taking it and will use it for the wreath.

Finally, I had a $25 off $50 purchase coupon, a $10 off $10 purchase coupon, a 15% off promo code, and a $75 rewards certificate all to pottery barn... their mercury glass is on sale 30% off this weekend so I got some mercury glass pillar candle holders I've been eyeing as a serious holiday centerpiece for our table (they are normally $$ and I couldn't bring myself to pay full price).  I also got a wreath holder with our last name engraved on the name plate - because monogramming/engraving was free this weekend too.

    I love Black Friday :)

  • So I just scored big at the coach store tonight.  Saved $160 with a coupon and price match!  Got the purse I wanted and splurged on a new wallet to match.  I pretty much got the wallet for free.  I was doing my happy dance and so happy I waited all year for that deal.

  • I went at 8am with my mom and MIL.  Got some bedsheets, a couple of Bluerays, and some tops for work that ended up being $13 for 3 of them.  My mom and MIL bought my Christmas presents on sale.  Got a very nice 7 piece patio set for $299.  It's the same one I was eyeing this past summer for $499, but refused to spend the money on it.

  • No black Friday shopping for me. Two more gifts to get. Other than that, I try to stay away from all stores till January
  • Nope, not at all. I did run to the craft store Saturday to get some supplies and got 30% off my whole order. I'll take it!

  • Yes.. DH and I went out and oh man, this whole weekend from Fri-today (cyber monday!) we did BAD. I mean some was budgeted for Xmas gifts and the tree, but we did quite a bit of impulse buying due to some awesome deals. We made them our gifts to each other!

This is key IMO.  H and I don't really get into the surprise gift thing.  We usually wait until the Black Friday through Cyber Monday deals to see what's available and then go from there.  Most things we buy are used by both of us, so usually a gift for one is a gift for both.

EDIT: that said, we usually do have one "special" gift for each of us.  But even those we tend to buy after seeing the deals.

Eeek, no! As far as planned shopping, I repeated what I did last year and shopped JcPenney.com on Thanksgiving. Last year I got an $8 toaster oven; this year I got a $20 triple crockpot-type cooker thing (Bella brand, like a crock pot but with 3 small pots instead of 1 large pot), normally $70. Friday night at around 7 H and I went out for some normal errands and I found flannel sheets for $9 off at Target (making them $17!) so I grabbed some of those. It was a good time to be out. We also went to Costco and I've never seen it so deserted, so I think if you have to go out on BF, go in the evening.

  • We traveled for the Holiday, and what do you know, we stayed near a beautiful outlet mall. So, needless to say my SILs and MIL and I did some Black Friday shopping. It was great. JCrew had everything 50% and an additional 10% off. I picked up some stocking stuffers for my sister and family gift games. The Osh Kosh outlet had door busters, I got a winter coat for LO for next year for $15.00!. I also picked up a pair of work pants at the Gap 50% off. All in all pretty successful. I was holding out for Cyber Monday but found Black Friday deals to be better, even online.

  • H and I went to Toys R Us, Target, Kohls, and the mall on Black Friday morning. Massachusetts cannot open big box stores until 1AM, so we spend some time waiting in line. I spent less than $600 but got everything I needed (minus 3 gift cards which I will get this week). I wrapped for 4 hours on Sunday afternoon. Now I can relax and enjoy myself for the next 22 days.

Yup- we are stuffing each other's stockings as our actual Christmas day gift to each other, just little things. Those gifts to ourselves, and our upcoming trip are our Christmas gifts!

  • I was peer pressured to go to Walmart Thursday night... was told it was the family tradition along MIL and SILs.  I joked it was my initiation.  I think I passed, but I went home afterwards, and they went back out.

I did get the kids their Nabi Tablet 2 for $100 each, saving $160 ($80 each).  It wasn't as bad as I thought it was, SIL got a 50inch TV, and MIL got my stepson his power wheels for $99.  Actually she got the ticket for it, paid for it, and they couldn't find it.  So she got an upgraded one for the same price.
