Car Seat Question

I feel like this is silly.

I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze and I love my car. However, it's pretty compact and when I have the car seat in there, no one can sit in the front seat with me (we have the Chicco KeyFit 30, which I was told was one of the smaller ones).

To compensate, my car has tilted seats to provide more leg room for people sitting in the back (seat is on an angle that goes from low to high). This means that the car seat doesn't fit level. I would really like to not have to get a new car.

Does anyone else have this problem with their vehicles? Are you allowed to put something underneath to make it level? We have a car seat fitting on the 19th and I would like to figure this out before then.

Re: Car Seat Question

  • I think the Keyfit 30 is supposed to be adjustable so you can level it.

The base? We tried toying with it and couldn't get it.

  • my SIL has the keyfit and the base can be adjusted I think....hmm. thats a serious and frustrating issue. I really hope you can get it figured out.
  • It's probably one of those things that the police officer who administers the check is going to be like, "You both are morons. Look!" *car seat magically fixes*

  • The car seats themselves usually do have things to level them, but we were told is is also ok to use a pool noodle or rolled up towel underneath in order to level it by a certified car seat installer.

  • Just as an FYI - not all fire stations have people that are certified car seat safety/installers, so you may want to check around for one or another place that is.

  • @bobcee - we are going to the hospital where I will deliver to get it checked. They have the township police that are certified to check the car seats.

Yes. I just installed ours and had it checked. I had to adjust the base to make it level. I think there were two orange things, one on each side, that you press down to make part of the base tilt. It was definitely in the instruction manual becauseu I didn't figure it out myself.

I'm going to look at this when I get home. So it will tilt it forward? Awesome!

Yes it should. Good luck, I hate doing anything that requires a manual.

Excellent!  That wasn't just directed at you though.  It was just an FYI for everyone because I know when I was wanting to get ours checked, the fire stations by us wouldn't do it so was trying to save people the frustration if they didn't know.  Our hospital had something set up as well on a monthly basis and that's were we ended up going :)
