Siepel

I was reading this article:

when I came across the last unusual of the phobias (listed as #13, of course).....and thought of you! :)

13) Triskaidekaphobia- fear of the number 13

Many people are superstitious about the number 13 but few have a fully fledged phobia. It is closely associated with the fear of Friday 13. Sufferers take great care to avoid using, or doing anything related to the number.

  • I thought it was the fear of triscuits. I mean, they do have sharp edges.

(It's a Friends reference for those of you who aren't cool enough to know that. ;) Didn't want you to actually think I thought that.)

  • Funny, I avoid the #13, but I don't think it's full blown phobia.  I do have a phobia of having my finger pricked though.  I wonder if there is a name for that?  I've never donated blood because I know they prick your finger before they draw it.  I have no fear of needles and typically watch when they draw blood from the vein, I have 3 tattoos and have had a lot of piercings, but I can't handle a finger pricker.  It's ridiculous.
  • I couldn't find a word for it! I was surprised to find a word for my phobia last summer. It's submechanophobia. The fear of submerged man-made objects.

  • @xxjen015, I feel like there's a story behind this submechanophobia that I need to hear!
  • haha I wish there were!!! I really do. It's crazy because I love being ON boats and the such, I love snorkeling, but the underside freaks me the eff out! As a child we would rent a pontoon boat and I'd even swim under it. As far as I know, no traumatic experiences with anything. We owned a small fishing boat and I remember trying to make sure my feet didn't touch the bottom when getting back in, but once again...not a big deal. But now, if I see a boat driving down the interstate...I have to avert my gaze as best I can. Submarines are the WORST.

The first time I remember flipping out was during the movie Poseidon and I had to turn around in my seat when the ship capsized. Thinking about it now sends chills down my spine! I start stuttering and getting all freaked out...I really wish I knew why!! I know it's extremely strange.
