Re: Holiday Poll!

  • Favorite Holiday memory?  It is tied between the year Santa brought me my Barbie Dream House and the year I got a Cabbage Patch Kid the first year they came out.

Favorite Holiday Tradition? Going to midnight mass, then opening up family gifts on Christmas Eve while eating Christmas cookies and hot chocolate.  We haven't done this since having kids, but now we go to a friend's house on Xmas, and it's turning into my favorite new tradition.

Favorite Christmas song?  All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey.  I also love O Holy Night.

    Favorite Christmas cookie? Buckeyes

What are most excited about this holiday season?  Just watching the boys take it all in.  They are both really into this year, and it is so much fun.  (Although Garrett keeps singing, Trick or Treat, Trick or Treat, Happy Halloween!, so we'll have to work on that, lol!)

  • Favorite Holiday memory? Spending each christmas with my mom's entire family, aunts, uncles, cousins in a huge Christmas day celebration at my Grandma's house. Most years there were 40+ people. I loved it.

Favorite Holiday Tradition? I love baking cookies while listening to holiday music.

Favorite Christmas song? Traditional--Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I Hear. Modern: All I Want for Christmas is You and Wonderful Christmas

Favorite Christmas cookie? I rarely meet a cookie I don't like.

What are most excited about this holiday season? The excitement the boys have each morning with their advent calendar--we have one that talks, and they love moving the counter to the next day.

  • Favorite Holiday memory?  Probably getting my bald Cabbage Patch Kid. I wanted one SO bad and they were few and far between.  We were actually somewhere and saw one and my aunt bought it in front of me for "someone else's kid".  (I was so naive!)   I opened it on Christmas Eve and just started to bawl, I was so happy.

Favorite Holiday Tradition?  I love having my family over on Christmas Eve for dinner and opening presents.  It's like an extra day of presents, since we do Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Favorite Christmas song? I can't pick just one!  I love the Bing Crosby/David Bowie Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth, Billy Squier's Christmas is a time to say I love you and Frank Sinatra's Jingle Bells.  I also love anything Bing Crosby - if I was alive back in his day, I'd have totally been a Bing fan girl.

    Favorite Christmas cookie?  thumbprints

What are most excited about this holiday season? Just seeing the boys on Christmas morning, I know they'll be excited.  And we usually go downtown a day and do a carriage ride and ice skate, it's become one of my favorite traditions.
  • Favorite Holiday memory?  Meghan, mine is also my Barbie Dreamhouse!  I remember wishing and wishing and wishing for it, but not wanting to be sad if it wasn't there.  But, there it was on Christmas morning!!

Favorite Holiday Tradition? Hosting Christmas Day.  We started this in 2009 and I hope to do it as long as possible; we have both sides of our families over and I love the fact that at least on that one day every year, the kids have everyone there for them.

Favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night and All I want for Christmas is You (both versions by Mariah Carey), Someday at Christmas by Stevie Wonder

Favorite Christmas cookie? i'm so boring, I just love a good, soft chocolate chip cookie :)

What are most excited about this holiday season? Seeing both of the boys actually "get" Christmas for the first time.  Last year, Liam still just kind of wandered around & didn't really understand...but they are both SO into it this year already, I think it's going to be great!

OK this is going to be fun! I"m not from Pittsb. but I am from PA so I hope you dont' mind me jumping in on this fun holiday poll:

Favorite Holiday Memory: well, I think it's more like a funny one that everyone talks about in my family everyyy single yearrrr. When I was a little girl (I think I was 4 or 5) I woke up on Christmas Eve at about 1 a.m., went out to see if Santa came to the house yet. On the top floor was where the fireplace was and I noticed that the stockings were stuffed! Had Santa come? Well, I had to make sure the gifts were under the tree to really be sure! So I ran downstairs to the living room (the living room was an addition to the house and you had to walk down an open flight of stairs that over looked the room to get to the christmas tree). Well, on my way down the stairs I had noticed that there weren't any gifts under the tree. The smart 4 year old that I was, I realized "wait. the stockings are stuffed. no gifts are under the tree. OMG SANTA IS SOME WHERE IN MY HOUSE!"... I freaked out. I probably blacked out too in fear because I don't remember anything after that. But my parents still get a kick out of it to this very day and it's always a funny story that's brought up every year!

Favorite Tradition: On Christmas Day Eve my family goes to my cousins house for a big dinner, drinking and gift exchange (we all pick a name a month in advance so it's a surprise for the gift receiver). Sadly this year we wont' be going to my cousin's house because it's in upstate NY and my sister is very pregnant and can't travel that far!

Favorite Christmas Song: I love Christmas music, but I have to say The Little Drummer Boy (specifically Nat King Cole's version) is my favorite!

Favorite Christmas Cookie: I'm not really a cookie eater -- my dad loves popcorn and he brought me up on caramel corn. So, usually for Christmas we will get him a big tub of caramel corn from one of his favorite places

What I'm most excited about for this Christmas: As I said earlier, my sister is very pregnant, so I can't wait to have a relaxing holiday with her and her husband at my parent's house. It's going to be our last Christmas before the first baby joins the family -- I"m very excited for my nephew to be born, but I guess I'm happy to savor this one last Christmas with all of the adults in the family! Hope that doesn't sound horrible, it's just going to be a very special time to spend with my sister and our family!

  • Favorite Holiday memory? I am going to jump on the Cabbage Patch bandwagon. Not only did I get one but I got a boy! My mom has always been really good with getting the hot gift. She bought us all one in July before she even knew that they were going to be the hot toy. My favorite one as an adult was the year I got my chocolate lab, which makes this year bittersweet because I lost him in June. I loved that damn dog, I still say he was the best Christmas gift ever from DH even though my MIL ruined the surprise by calling me at work and asking me how I liked my new dog the night Nathan went to get him.

Favorite Holiday Tradition? Christmas Eve at my parents' house. My mom makes a huge buffet and we just hang out. She still buys us all new pajamas. My husband usually ends up spending the night and I get called the fun police when I suggest leaving. Although, the year my BIL broke his leg he should have listened.

Favorite Christmas song? Silent Night. My favorite is church music, I love going to church on Christmas.

Favorite Christmas cookie? apricot bars and mini cheesecakes

What are most excited about this holiday season? Well, I was looking forward to my sister and nephew coming but she has decided not to. I kinda figured this would happen since they didn't go to NY last year because they all had the flu. I am looking forward to decorating the new house.

  • Favorite Holiday memory? Singing Christmas carols around the piano with my extended family. We're spread out now, and only a few of us have pianos. I miss that so much!

Favorite Holiday Tradition? Watching all the holiday movies I can find, making cookies with my SIL, and reading The Night Before Christmas

Favorite Christmas song? I love, love, love Christmas music, there is no way I could pick one!

Favorite Christmas cookie? Cookie press/spritz cookies. I used to make them with my grandma, and they remind me of her.

What are most excited about this holiday season? Our first Christmas as a family of 3! We're looking forward to starting new traditions of our own!

  • Favorite holiday memory - I loved getting up before my parents and opening my stocking. That was the only thing we could touch before they got moving and it was always fun:)

Favorite holiday tradition - now it's tucking in Claire in new jammies and then wrapping gifts with DH . It's nice to have some quiet time with him before the craziness of Christmas.

Favorite Christmas Song - I love O Holy Night

Favorite Christmas Cookie - Russian tea cookies

What are you most looking forward to? Having Christmas with my dad for the first time in 10 years :)
  • Favorite Holiday memory?  As kids, we always went to my grandma's house for a dinner before Christmas and "santa" was there...my grandpa!  I loved it and one year my older boy cousins got coal from him.  The Christmas after my grandpa died, there was no "Santa" and everyone was all teary (I was 7 at the time) and didn't understand.

I also have 1 memory of my father-in-law at Christmas making fun of the Mushroom soup on Christmas eve (he died right before that next Christmas so I only knew him for 1 Christmas).

On a happy memory, last year at my MIL's, it was late on Christmas Eve and DD was in full out crying spell because "santa will be in my house.  I don't want him in my house.  Please make him leave the presents outside!"

Favorite Holiday Tradition?  We do a ton of driving at Christmas.  We drive in to DH's grandparents for lunch on Xmas Eve.  Then do 5pm church with my parents and sister, then go to MILs for dinner at 8pm then drive 90 minutes back to our house so the kids wake up at our house Xmas morning then at 9am drive back to my parents house for Xmas day dinner....about 8 hours in the car in 2 days.

Favorite Christmas song?  You make it feel like Christmas, Neil Diamond

Favorite Christmas cookie?  Any but Buckeyes are my favorite followed by Chocolate Shakeology and Peanut Butter Balls!

What are most excited about this holiday season?  Love seeing DD1 so into Christmas and Santa and the Elf and just everything about traditions and singing songs.  I love that DD2 loves finding the Elf in the morning, sometimes beating DD1 to it.
