Decided we're going to start TTC

So last week we decided we are going to start trying. It just so happens I had a re-pap today so I made a list of my current meds, questions about exercise and diet questions I had about before and during pregnacy. And to my disappointment my doctor kinda brushed me off. She told me to not get my hopes up, she told me when to have sex and good luck. I normally love her and while I know she was busy, she didnt really take the moment I wanted/needed to ask my questions/concerns. She told me it could take up to a year to get pregnant so not to be disappointed if it takes that long.

Re: Decided we're going to start TTC

  • Good luck to you!

But, what did you want your doc to do? Are you upset she didn't throw a party or do you legitimately have questions? She gave you good advice.

Well she's right about a year but it's still lame she didn't take the time to answer your questions in detail. Its normal to be excited and enthusiastic in the begining even if it does take a long time to find sucess. Let us know if you have any general questions, this group is extremely knowlegable. Good luck.

  • You can ask questions here. Also, reading taking charge of your fertility (TCOYF) is a huge help! For now, just try to enjoy the fun of trying! If you want to get more in depth with charting your temps, ovulation prediction kits, etc. then this board is a wealth of information.

Welcome and good luck! I hope your stay is short and sweet.
  • I'm sorry your doctor didn't take the time to listen to your questions, but it sounds like you've put some thought into getting started.  It also sounds like she gave you some good advice about the possibility of it taking up to a year.  I hope that's not the case for you though.

    GL, try and enjoy TTC!

  • It sounds to me like your doctor was trying to encourage you to manage your expectations but made you feel brushed off. As far as diet and exercise, start taking a prenatal vitamin if you aren't already, and eat as healthy as you can. If you find yourself pregnant you can talk to her about things to avoid. For exercise, TTCing is a great time to start if you haven't already so you can try to continue when you get your BFP. There is a positive correlation between moderate exercise during pregnancy and fetal development. Good luck!

  • I'm sorry she didn't give you much time. Maybe she didn't realize you're one who is actually trying to prepare vs the girls who come in and say "i wanna baby" and then the simple advice she gave is enough to satisfy them. I'm sure she hears that all the time so maybe she just didn't know you wanted more info.

Like pps said, ask your questions here! Our combined knowledge is probably as good as your docs.. ;) Maybe not,but.... maybe so! I'd also recommend taking the charting courses on Fertilityfriend.com. That's a great starting point to understanding your body. GL to you!

  • Sorry your doc didn't let you question much, but that is great that you are getting on it before you already are. Get on top of your body, like lindseyandjaime said, all of it. Hopefully it doesn't take a year, but just stay positive about it. The girls here are good! Any questions there is usually someone who can answer it for ya. Welcome and good luck.
