East coasters help!

So I'm sitting between a rock and a hard place. The storm is supposed to blow in here (Rome, ny) around 6pm tonight and stay for like 24 hours potentially giving us several inches of snow. My fight is supposed to leave tomorrow at 3pm. So my options are this: 1. Drive up this afternoon and stay in the airport hotel and hope my flight doesn't get cancelled. 2. Stay the night, hope the storm isn't as bad as they think and drive up tomorrow or 3. Stay here because we can assume my fight will be cancelled and hope I make it out before Friday not knowing what the roads will be like. I realize you can't tell the future, but maybe you girls have an idea of how often the storms really cause cancelled flights out here? If I didn't have a Christmas party at MY house on Saturday for 60 people I wouldn't even care about a delay, but I DO, so I'm kinda flipping out a little right now. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Re: East coasters help!

  • I live in Southeastern Mass/border Rhode Island, and the way our storms go are pretty lame. I was just on weather.com to check it out. It's saying that your area is going to get few snow showers, between a 30-70% chance of precipitation, about less than 1 inch. I would stay the night and drive up tomorrow. I would leave an hour earlier than planning on leaving, just because of yucky road conditions. Plus, if your area is anything like ours planning wise, your roads are or should already be winterized with salt and sand. You should be able to check the flights prior to leaving to see if your flight will be delayed/cancelled.

  • I just responded to this point on GP. I would stick it out and see if you guys do get hit.
  • we're in pgh, pa and it's not been a real issue. there's snow today, but nothing drastic. i know the other side of pa is getting slammed though. my dad is an airline pilot-i don't know if his flights get cancelled due to the weather super often. i'm not sure what the requirements are for cancelling flights due to snow.

  • I lived just east of Syracuse for three years and now live in WNY. The storms around CNY can be pretty awful and if you're due to get what we're currently getting in WNY, it's a lot of snow.

  • @DangerMuffin23, did you make your flight? I know if you did, you're on it right now, but was just thinking about you. Hope the weather didn't mess up your plans!

I am home safe and sound! Thanks for checking in! One flight was a little delayed, but not by much, I'm so thankful!
