WIALT: Life after Life (sp to about 25%)

I'm having a tough time with this one.  For the first couple hours I listened I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on!  I seem to have figured it out now, but it's a little... dull.  I feel like we are skipping around in time now, but we're not getting in to Ursula's purpose.  The first scene started with such a bang (har har), but the rest has been a bit boring.

I started this one because it was on a lot of "Best of" lists for 2013.  For those who have finished, is it worth continuing?  Goodreads only has a 3.77 rating.  It's good, but not stellar.  What says NBC?

  • I couldn't listen to this.  It was so boring.  I put it down and picked it up several times thinking I could make myself get through it and I couldn't.

  • That book would be very hard to listen to I would imagine.  But the book itself I didn't care for, so I say skip it personally.

  • I enjoyed reading the book (I didn't listen to it, I read it) - but I can imagine that listening to it would be hella confusing.
  • I listened to it also and agree it does not lend itself well to audio.  It doesn't get any better.

  • I didn't finish, but I plan to pick up the actual book and finish there.  I loved the idea and the story, but I found the audio way too hard to listen to.

  • The first 40% I was ready to give up but I kept listening to it anyways and ended up enjoying the second half of the book way more than the first.  That being said, I loved the idea but not so much the way it was executed.

  • Meh. I can't understand why it is so critically acclaimed. It was ok. I agree that the premise was better than the execution.

  • I'm glad it seems I'm not alone.   The premise sounds pretty awesome, but I'm not getting much else from it.  I also want to like Ursula, but I just don't.  Sylvie's a wet blanket as well.  The only interesting character was George.  I thought he was going to spice up Sylvie's life a bit, but that didn't happen. At least, not yet.

  • I say no, stop now and don't even give it a second thought. I listened to it because everybody said the book was so good, by the end I really wanted to put the cds in the street and drive over them a couple times (probably would have if I actually owned them.)

Lol, I think I was having a bad week, it's rare that I feel that strongly about disliking a book.

  • I listened and didn't hate it but it is slow and sometimes you wonder what the point is. I tend to have luck with audio though when I've tried reading it and it's too slow or I'm not getting into it on my own. The audio keeps me more engaged and moving along.

This is usually what happens for me too.  I don't think the narrator is bad either, I'm just bored.
