If Professor Piper really did suspect plagiarism, why isn't Cath facing expulsion?

This is what I tell people when they make comments like that about books...it's fiction. Accept it.

Are you liking the book? I loved this the most out of everything I read this year, although Attachments was a close second!

I think fanfic is a tough case for plagiarism. I also think that the professor recognized Cath's talent as a writer, and wanted to give her another chance.
But generally, I agree with PP - it's fiction, just accept it.

I understand that fanfic has fuzzy lines when it comes to plagiarism but if Prof Piper felt so strongly about it, she could have said something like "this time I'll leave you with a warning". I mean I'm not harping on it but I just thought about it.

I am really enjoying this book and I don't want to do anything but read.

I love Levi so so so very much!

Ch 15 has been my favorite chapter so far. They finally kissed! However, my heart sank when Cath saw him making out with some other girl.

Wren is your stereotypical college girl and it makes me sad for Cath.

Nick is an asshat

I would totally be friends with Reagan.

I had the same thoughts about the paper. Plagiarism is such a big deal and drilled into your head that it's tough to read it and then say, but wait. Nothing happened? It didn't really get addressed beyond the F.

And is an agriculture/farming major. I don't know...he seems so smelly to me!

I was thinking about it more, and I agree with Susie. I think Prof. Piper knew that Cath had major talent, so she didn't want to have her expelled or anything. She knew she had the potential, but maybe felt like getting an F on her paper would be enough punishment for a typically A student.

And I still don't like Wren.

Wren is the effing worst. I was mad at her from her first introduction into the book.

I didn't even think about Levi smelling...now I'm rethinking all of my favorite scenes with him and Cath and wondering if he smelled like hay.

I think the whole fanfic thing struck Professor Piper as just plain wrong and her reaction was based on wanting Cath to see that it was wrong too or that it wasn't "real writing" etc. Instead of expelling her, she wanted to convert her to her way of thinking.

I have to agree with @packfan20

While I LOVE RR's writing, I don't like most of her characters or stories. Eh. I know I'm in the minority here, but oh well.

Yep! Before I made friends I couldn't have told you where it was. Nor did I want to sit alone. I survived on chicken sandwiches and fries from the mini caf I found because it meant I didn't have to eat alone. #nerdalert

I am Cath and she is me. I related to her from the very beginning and found myself thinking, 'damn, am I really this much of a basket case?' The answer is a resounding yes, which is why when someone says they don't like her as a character, I feel like they're talking about me.

I related to her more than I thought I would and I understood her. Cath is a total introvert who suffers from abandonment issues. I enjoyed watching her come out of her shell but she was still capable to remain true to herself.
