Convertible Carseat ?

I'm starting to research convertible carseats and need some help. C is pretty tall and when he drives, he has the front seat pushed all the way back. l like having W behind the driver's seat because it makes it easier for me to get him in and out of the car. Currently with his infant seat, if C is driving, the front seat is inches away from touching the carseat. When we get him in a convertible carseat, I'd feel better about there being more legroom for him, and really don't know what the best seat would be.

Which carseat do you have and is there plenty of room for the kiddo back there?

Oh, we have a Honda CR-V, if that helps.

Re: Convertible Carseat ?

  • We have Britax Boulevards.  I'm not familiar with the Honda CR-V layout.  Are they bucket seats where putting the seat in the middle is not an option?  We had the seat in the middle until we had to put two in.  Then we put the convertible behind the driver and the infant seat behind the passenger because the convertible actually takes up less space than the infant seat due to the incline of the infant seat if that makes sense.

  • We have an Evenflo Symphony 65. Lucy's always had plenty of space, but your H will probably not be able to put the seat all the way back, especially if it's reclined for rear-facing. We have them in an Escalade and a Chevy Silverado.

  • No, it's totally possible to put him in the middle and we may move him once he's in the convertible.

I'm thinking of switching him in the next few months because he's just getting really big and I'm not sure I'm buff enough to continue carrying him in the infant seat.

  • We've had the Graco Headwise 70 in both of our cars before, and my H is 6'5" and has the seat back as far as it goes.  It fits great in our Ford Flex, but my Ford Fusion it was a tighter squeeze behind him.  It did not fit in the back seat of his 2 door Nissan Altima coupe, but not much does.

We also got the Boulevard about a month ago and it fits in my tiny Fiesta so much better than her infant seat did. It seems like she has lots of leg room left which was important to me to keep her rear facing as long as possible. I also think BRU or BBB will let you test them in your car before buying to determine fit. Good luck!

I have a Safety 1st Advance 70 Air + (or something very similar) in my Corolla, and it's huge. DH never drives the kid I nanny, which is good because he wouldn't be able to put his seat where he needs it, even with the car seat in the middle.

  • We have two Chicco Nextfits. DH has his seat all the way back and her seat fits just fine. I like the recline features that allow you to adjust it to fit in most cars. E seems so much more comfortable in her big girl car seat.

  • I have a CR-V and have the Evenflo Symphony behind my seat and it's fine, but I don't think DH has driven my car since we've had that seat so I'm not sure what happens. He has a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same seat and put his seat in the middle. I don't know if it's because his Jeep is a little taller but I have a really really hard time getting L in and out of his seat when it's in the middle, so I have no intention of having him in the middle in my car.
