Update - Deck

Everything was finished on my deck a few weeks ago, except we were still missing a cap. 1 cap! When the manager called to see we were happy, I'm like um, we still need a cap. He's like seriously?! I'm like yup! He said they will order it.

It's been 2 weeks. I called, he said oh yea, it's been ordered just not in yet. I asked for an ETA, and he said the girl in installing services would call me back. She did, and man she was scared. Why was she scared? SHE FORGOT TO ORDER IT. I just laughed. She thanked me for not yelling. I'm like this started in August, I can't be mad anymore. So she ordered it, ETA 30 Dec. Maybe it'll be done before the NEW YEARS!

I think this makes me up my compensation amount I have in my head, which is to be discussed when the project is completed.

Re: Update - Deck

  • I saw this subject and was like, "Oh no, please tell me this post is going to say that everything is done and awesome."  Hopefully this is the final snag to having this completed.  I also hope you enjoy the heck out of that deck this summer!  It better be worth the hassle.  lol!
  • Haha OH I plan to enjoy the heck out of it  this summer for sure.  I've been able to enjoy it, just had to prop chair up on the section that wasn't done so the dog didn't jump off.  Not that I think he would, unless there was food involved!  The snow has been pretty on it!

We always wrap lighted garland around the top of the railing on our deck.  I think it looks super pretty to see the light shine through the snow that collects on the garland.  I should get a picture and post it.  It's awesome right now because we have almost a foot of snow outside right now.
  • YES PICS PLEASE!

Uhhhh!!!! I have lights from our tree, we got a prelit one this year!  Now I want it on the deck!

  • I am happy to hear the deck is ALMOST done.  I can't believe that you have to wait for one more cap.  It is ridiculous.  If I were you, I would call first thing on the 30th to make sure the cap arrived.  I sure hope they come to install it the day the cap arrives.  Keep us posted on how they compensate you!
  • That's too funny! I was actually going to ask you for a deck update LOL! Hopefully, you'll be ringing in the New Year on a FINISHED deck : )

  • I agree with Heidi's first post. and @Siepel12, I want pics too!!! I'm jealous of the snow!

Our deck is covered, but not closed in. We took the big bulbed lights from our wedding and they're draped loosely around the top, under the roof. It's so pretty!

  • I can't believe you are still waiting on ONE cap!  That's so ridiculous!  I hope you really stick it to them when you ask for compensation.

  • This whole saga has made me realize that although building your own is a giant pain in the ass, at least it wouldnt take 5 months to get done. Note to self, build own deck.

  • @snuff9861 - I think this was just a perfect storm of crap.  From my talk with the big manager after the parts were wrong, I found out the guy managing my project just up and quit.  If I had all my parts, there would have been no issues.  I think my account got closed out which started the mess.  In the books the project was done.  Then Lowes stop using the contractor that did it added to it.  This last one was the girl's fault.  I give her props for being honest with me, unlike the manager (not the big one) for telling me it was ordered, just not in.
