Cleared for Closing!

We've gotten all the necessary documents to the proper people and today our lawyer informed us that we are cleared to close. She's trying to schedule it for our original date (Fri the 13th!) but possibly sooner if the 13th doesn't work for everyone! soooo exciting!!!

  • so, our closing on the 13th was pushed back until 2 pm today cause the mortgage company couldn't get all the paperwork to our lawyer in time. my fiance is pretty frustrated and ready for this part to be over, cause he was supposed to work today - he only works 2 days a week (2 24-hour shifts) so *of course* the day that works best for everyone else is during one of his shifts!  ;)

at this point though, T minus 2 hours, if we haven't heard anything by now then I think we're all set... ::fingers crossed::  :)

Ugh.  I so feel your frustration.  We're supposed to close TODAY and got the call late last night that they haven't received the payoff for one of the sellers loans and our rate expires at 5pm today.

I so hope you get this worked out without any additional stress.

Our original rate expired after the first delay...but the new rate only added maybe $10/month to the monthly mortgage, so we weren't too pissed off...

So we got to the lawyer's office Monday at 1:45 pm....the sellers were also there. the HUD approval hadn't come through yet - someone found a TYPO (!! - 6 days of delays and no one had caught it beforehand?!) The sellers had all of there paperwork ready, so they signed their part and left - but refused to give over the keys until we had signed all of our stuff. ugh. fast forward to 5:30pm....we finally got to signing! Yay! BUT, the recording office was closed by then so it wasn't recorded until the next day.

Selling broker then said he would leave the keys in the lock box at our new place, but being in Boston we had a baby-blizzard that for some reason screwed up traffic more than normal so there was no way i'd be driving over, so I finally got the keys last night when I met the painter we had hired to repaint the place.

Long crazy process, but so relieved/less stressed now that the "fun" part (packing/moving...oy) begins!

How did yours end up going? Did you get to close?

Well, in our case, it's the difference between .5 pts ($1200) and an addition $16/month or about $3900 over the life of the loan.  So about $5000 over 20 yrs if we actually run the mortgage out.  Not exactly small change.  So far, the bank is agreeing to extend our rate for free in the interest of customer goodwill. :)

Wow.  Your sellers sound as bad as the ones we're dealing with. :(

Nope.  Still not closed and no idea when we will close.  The lawyer is being told 5-7 days minimum and with the holidays upon us the closing attorney is taking two days at Christmas and probably another two days at New Years.  And we already gave notice to our apartment complex and like you had things we were considering doing to the house before moving in.  Oh, and the utilities have already been transfered, so we're paying utilities on a house we can't even access.

Glad you got everything settled and can start moving in. :)
