at the hospital re: sleep

Where did LO sleep while you were in the hospital? So far we are either holding him or like right now I'm letting him sleep on the bed with me while I side nurse. I don't want to start encouraging co-sleeping and we have the crib and rock n play in our room to ensure this doesn't happen but for now I'm doing what I feel comfortable with and can handle. Especially with all the different pains I have. I can't easily put him in the hospital's plastic bassinet and it just seems so cold to me. so what did you do?

Re: at the hospital re: sleep

  • Our plastic bassinet was lines with a blanket or something on the bottom plus she was swaddled and slept fine in there. I was able to roll it next to the bed and could pretty much put her in or take her out without getting up. Plus that's what husband's are for. Is he there with you? I'd make him do it.

  • ^This for me too. He was swaddled so he was completely fine in their bassinet right beside my bed so I could just reach over for him. If I couldn't, DH got him. I've never slept while holding him and after he falls asleep in my arms he gets moved to his bassinet.

  • @alexianna44 yes he's here. I guess I'm just projecting my own thoughts about having to sleep in a plastic bassinet.

  • Ditto PP.

During the day, he mostly slept in the bassinet, unless myself or someone else was holding him. I had a c-section, so it was difficult for me at times to put him back in there in the middle of the night, so I ended up just snuggling with him.

  • He was in the NICU for the duration of our stay, sooooooooooooooo...

I totally would have slept with him in bed.  You are not going to create any bad habits this early.

  • They both slept some in the bassinet or some with me in the bed or laying on my husband while we were in the hospital. We were only there a day though, so they both transitioned fine to their crib in their own room the first night we came home.

DD did always love being held during the day while napping though whereas we were able to put DS down, so I don't think it mattered so much what we did as it just depends on the baby if you're worried about creating a habit/expectation.

  • I put him in the bassinet and he slept for like 20 minutes.

@bobcee We did the same with my DD. I pretty much held her her first 2 months and I'd rather not with this little guy so it's nice to see that your boy was fine with not being held 24/7. this little guy seems fine with it compared to DD who hated being anywhere but my arms.

  • She slept in the bassinet. DH pretty much took care of her at the hospital because I wasn't up for it. I think she slept on him a few times as well.

She mostly slept in her pack n play bassinet once we were home but she slept on us some of the time as well.
