GTKY: Hidden

What is the best kept hidden secret place in your town? How did you find out about it?

Re: GTKY: Hidden

  • I don't know that its a secret, but there is this one hike with beautiful glacier fed waterfalls that the trail is almost always empty, I LOVE going there, all the other local easy hikes are always packed with people, but since this one is only accessible by a short non-motorized boat trip first (under a hour), it keeps a lot of people off the trail or even knowing about it.

I found out about it because we did a trip up there with my Outdoor Education Class in grade 6....so when we got a canoe for the wedding I wanted to go back and check it out.
  • Where I grew up in Cleveland, there is a restaurant that everyone loves. It is constantly changing owners but it is always good. It looks weird but the food is awesome.

We also have another place that is great but was made very public by a few Food Network shows... Sokolowski's. Yumm! Cafeteria style old school Polish/Eastern European food... again... YUM!

  • It shouldn't be a secret, but unfortunately a lot of Clevelanders don't know about it (including me for 17 years). The west side market on W25th in Cleveland, it's a food market with vendors in which you pay each one individually. It's not a new concept, they're everywhere in other countries and we've had ours since 1913 I think (we just had a 100 year anniversary). It's great for getting fresh local ingredients. I learned about it cuz my H's family has owned a stand there for 50+ years. They were on Bizarre Foods recently!

      Anniversary
  • We had the most incredible breakfast place called Cafe Reva. It was this little hole in the wall that you would drive past if you weren't sure where you were going. Unfortunately they had to close over the summer due to some out of code equipment. However, they were SO GOOD the fire chief let them stay open a few extra months until the summer (our busy/touristy time) was over.

They had this breakfast club (ham, bacon, sausage & egg between 3 slices of french toast) that was awesome. It was where me & the girls ate the morning of our wedding, and I miss it. We're still trying to find a new breakfast spot.   :((

  • We have a little bakery/sandwich place that is so amazing. All the bread is fresh and made daily along with different desserts. It's deli sandwiches and nothing special but each sandwich comes with a dessert and you can pick what you want. So good!

Jamael, I have been going to the market since I was a little girl. I used to go with my grandparents. I loved it.

  • West side market does have some yummy food :)     I would say if this was being posted last year....Melt Bar and Grill would have been a local hidden place...but now..they have gotten big for their britches and expanded to more locations and the food has gone downhill :(

For where Im at....west side of Cleveland...id have to say Fatheads Brewery has some awsome beers and decent food
  • I don't know many hidden gems since we have only been here a year now. We have a local store called Andy T's that looks like a nursery. When you go in they have local Grown and raised food as well as a bakery. I get all my bread from there now. Sad they are closing on Christmas Eve till April.
