Just had a woman in my office ask if I'm having a girl "because you're carrying all around kind of like a watermelon".

I honestly responded, "No, I'm having a boy.  And I'm actually carrying all in front and low.  But I'm glad to know I look like a watermelon."  And promptly got up and walked out of the lunch room.

WTF is wrong with people?!

ETA:  I feel like I should say that I'm not upset or anything.  It's just astounding how inconsiderate and rude people are.  Do they not think before they speak!?

I was going to say the same thing. I was asked often when I was pg with my son if I was having twins by the same woman. One time is acceptable, but if I tell you it's one, trust me, I don't want to be asked again. And do not comment on how big I am again, k? People are dumb.

  • People have zero filter! Sorry about the dumb people.
  • IDK how many times I got "Are you sure there is even a baby in there?" until about 3 weeks ago. I know it is almost an opposite problem, but still made me want to punch people in the face... I'm sorry that our pregnant bodies don't suit you...

I don't think even one time is acceptable.  My SIL was pg with twins and while she was walking into her shower the valet said, "OOOH, Twins?"  Yes, she's petite and she was pretty big (my nieces were both born over 7lbs!), but it's still not okay to say that!  She was already sensitive enough about how much wight she gained because her mom, who also had twins, only gained 18lbs (she didn't know she was having twins and her doctor told her to watch her weight). WTF, people?!

    Sorry people are a**holes.

  • Well I carried all out front and was having a girl. There's a reason they call them OWT and not facts, because it's not true for everyone.

Why do people insist on saying stupid things to pregnant women?

  • I'm glad you were snarky and walked out. People are so rude. I try sooooo hard to be as appropriate as possible otherwise I just don't say anything. I feel like the older generation is the worst and feels like you've become "community property" when you're pregnant so they can say/do anything they want. I'm glad you're not hurt, bc it's not worth your time, but maybe the walk out will get her attention and show her it's inappropriate.

@JennaHack WTF?! I'm sorry. That is so incredibly rude. I'm glad you weren't upset by it, but seriously? Who says that crap? Your response was perfect, although probably nicer than some other things you could have said. My immediate reaction was, "So does that mean YOU'RE having a girl?!?" Lol

@sgautschi I was thinking the same thing about OWTs. DH's grandma has a horrible habit of informing me of "You had X happen? You better watch out because that means Y will happen after the baby is born." I usually laugh it off and tell her that it's an OWT and then no matter what it is, she'll respond, "No it's true! It happened to (fill in random person from church that she never talks to)!" Because obviously if it happens once, it MUST be true. *headdesk*
