Hysteroscopy & Laparoscopy scheduled..

This ish is real.

January 16th.

I'm so thankful that the holidays are here, and I will for sure have many distractions over the next couple of weeks.

I'll be totally under, and have been told the recovery time is typically 3-4 days.

And we just got the bills for the first round of tests/appointments.  Eeps.  I wonder if I can wrap a pictures of my t/v US or HSG and give it to everyone for Christmas? That would totally work, no?

Good luck on your hysteroscopy and laparoscopy!

I just had a hysteroscopy a week and a half ago and the recovery was easy.  I was a bit crampy for the first couple of days but nothing major and I had very little bleeding afterwards so hopefully your recovery will be just as easy!

  • Good luck! I hope it goes super well and is easy for you! I had laparoscopic surgery in Dec 2010 to unblock my tubes (and they treated endo) and it wasn't bad at all.  I never took a single pain pill. The worst part was anticipating the surgery! Well, that and the gas. Ooooh the gas afterwards was crappy.. but it only lasted a day or two. (It gets lodged in your shoulder/back area and quick movement HURTS). Just burp, fart, walk it out as much as you can!

I felt GREAT the night after surgery. The next day I was sore, felt like I'd been beaten up, and laid around most of the day, but after that, I really felt pretty dang good. I was getting out of the house by the following day. I did find that I'd get VERY tired for about 1-2 weeks afterwards and I'm really glad I had a week off work, so just take it easy and rest when you feel tired. I was only mildly sore. The incisions were so tiny. I'd recommend that you avoid lifting anything heavy and don't stretch or twist too quickly because it will hurt then.

If I can offer one piece of advice, starting several days before, I highly recommend you start drinking Milk of Magnesia every day and continue for at least a week or so after the surgery. For some reason anesthesia can make you constipated and trust me, after abdominal surgery (even just laparoscopic) the LAST thing you want to do is have to really use those muscles to push because you will be sore if you use them...  Just trust me on this one! :)

I really do hope the surgery is super easy for you! :)<3

Absolutely! Everyone would love one of those! Haha!

In all seriousness though, good luck! I really hope your recovery isn't too bad and the procedures go smoothly and flawlessly. The other ladies sound like they've given you great advice for afterward.

    TTC #1 August 2014. BFP 9/26! EDD 6/9/15
    Baby A born 6/17/2015
  • I just had laparoscopic surgery on Thursday and I ditto everything RAB said. I have had some pain and taken some ibuprofen and some percocet for the first three days (they offered me that or vicodin, but vicodin makes me fall asleep, whereas I'm functional on percocet) mostly when I overdid it or at night to sleep. The first night I was really miserable in bed because of all the gas, and I felt like my ribs were really sore, but it's gotten better.

And I'm glad RAB mentioned being tired for a week or two. I was starting to think I was losing my mind. I took 1-2 naps a day after surgery up until yesterday.

I have two tiny incisions, one on my lower belly and one in my belly button. The belly button one is annoying because it hurts to wear jeans, but hopefully once the scab forms better and starts to fall off that will improve. As far as surgery goes, though, I feel like the recovery is pretty easy.

  • @tdmd09 - get one of those big old square bandaids and put it all the way over your belly button! I did that a few times and it seemed to be just enough to cushion the belly button :) And yeah, the tiredness is totally normal. I might even say it was 2-3 weeks before the tiredness went away. Just take it easy as you can. I'm glad you've had a pretty good recovery :)

  • Ditto everything RAB said, especially about the milk of magnesium. I had my surgery in December of 2011 and really wish I had done something sooner about the constipation, because really, that was the worst part with my recovery. That first post surgery poo was brutal, not gonna lie.

I hope it goes smoothly and I'll be thinking about you!
