Charting

The longer I chart my cycles, the more I start to understand and am realizing that I don't always ovulate on the same day in each cycle. Frustrating, yes, but at least it's becoming slightly easier to time things correctly.

Last month, I O'd on day 13, this month, it was day 16 (which would be this morning - temp dropped and tested +OPK). We had ST late last night before bed, so I'm keeping fingers crossed that our timing was right this month.

Either way, I've already resigned myself to have my testing done next month, but fx that we might just get lucky this time around.

Btw, I just want to thank everyone here for all of the advice/info/support....if it wasn't for this forum, I probably wouldn't be charting my cycles, but really, it's so important just to know what's going on with your own body and I feel like now when I see the new doctor next month, I'll be better prepared when I bring this stuff with me.

Re: Charting

  • Charting certainly is a revelation and a great tool once you get the hang of it.

Good luck with your additional testing.  Hopefully it has only been a timing issue, and the new information from charting is all it takes and you get your BFP this month :)

  • Well yea, I keep thinking maybe it's been the timing, but who knows. Initially when we started this journey, we tried to let nature take its course. Obviously paying attention to the calendar and whatnot, but no OPKs or charting. Then when that didn't seem to work, we started using OPK's, and we would get +, have ST, but still nothing. I began charting in September though, in addition to OPKs, and this is def the most useful.

We've tried other stuff too in the last few months - like limiting caffeine intake (1 cup of coffee instead of 2), drinking green tea, ohhhh....and CELERY....an old, dear friend of mine recommended that my H eat celery and lots of it. Supposedly this helps the boys...it may or may not be true, but I will say that I've noticed a significant difference, so I recommend and say you have nothing to lose by incorporating more of this in your diet ;)
  • I definitely learned a lot by charting!  Hopefully you will get your BFP and won't even need to get the testing done!

  • Glad charting is really informing you about your body!

If you think today is O day (which you obviously won't be able to confirm for certain until you've had a sustained temp rise, get some more ST in tomorrow; EOD up until 1 day after O can do the trick!

Sorry for the stupid question, but when you say EOD do you mean EOD today or EOD tomorrow? My poor H....I'm wearing him out hahaha
  • EOD stands for "every other day," so if you had ST last night, it'd mean tomorrow, lol!

You see where my head is at.....roaaaarrrrrr!!!! lolz
  • I do have a question here. Why do you say to do it every Other day? Wouldn't it seem better to do it like everyday when you may be before ovulating? I'm learning here... lol

It's EOD to give the boys time to build back up. You may end up getting lower sperm counts if you're releasing them every 24 hours instead of giving a little extra time to replenish.

  • @luckyAngel07 Thank you! I knew I had heard this somewhere. My H was fighting me on this. He was like, shouldn't we have sex like ALL THE TIME if we are TTC? He would like it like a few times a day. Ha ha, ya he got excited. I told him I heard that EOD was what was suggested for better chances of getting pregnant. ;)

I've heard a few different things regarding the EOD. Such as if the man has a lower count, it's better to do every other day to build up. We started out that way, then tried every day, then every other day....that was before I was actively charting though and now that I've been charting a few months, it's becoming easier to hone in on which day I'm ovulating - and I've noticed that I don't ovulate on the same day in every cycle.

If your H has the stamina to go more than once a day, I say go for it! lol

I started kind of charting a couple months ago. Checking my CM yet not temping. Still not really a clue what's going on. Still learning about my body. Lol We do have sex pretty often, at least a few times a week, no matter what. So FX! :)

You're right, been married a little over a year. Sex is fun! Lol. I am so ready to get pregnant anytime. I am so baby happy. I see pregnant women and just love them! I see cute babies and kids and always think, I cannot WAIT!!! :) I pray that everything is okay with us. I think and get a little scared like what if ... I know I cant think what if, but its hard not to sometimes... I think I just know that I was meant to have a baby. I know my H will be an amazing father and truly look forward to watching him with a child. xo

Well, I would just say that even though you can have issues at any age, try not to stress too much over it (for now anyway) because obviously stress is not good. Especially if you are still in your 20's. I mean, I'm almost 40, so for me, I really have to be concerned just because of the age factor. If no success this cycle, then I move onto testing for me next month. I should have done the testing 5-6 months ago, but my insurance didn't cover it, and now they will so it won't cost me an arm and leg to get testing now. I suppose if you are really worried, you could ask your doctor about it and maybe there are some preliminary tests they can do? My friend's dr ran some blood work and ultrasound on her to check her egg reserves and whatnot, and she's not even thinking about kids yet. He did it though because she's 32 and he just wanted to make sure all was okay and inform her of options, such as freezing eggs, should she decide she doesn't want kids until later. This is actually the DR I am switching to ;) They would probably want to wait until you've been trying for at least a year though before doing anything like that, but it never hurts to ask.
  • Thanks. I am actually 33, and I think, she had some tests done. I don't see her, though, until next month. We maybe next month will start with those ovulation tests. :) I hope things work out for you my dear. Age does play a factor, but its so crazy how some people can get pregnant at any age anytime, not planning yet people who want to so badly have to go thru so much. FX this cycle!!! xoxo
