The damn baseball shirt

So the past week has been really fun b/c Eamon has insisted on wearing the same baseball onesie every.single.day.  Super fun when he pitched a fit last week on the way to daycare, refused to put on his shoes or socks or get in the car seat so I had to put my knee in his chest to get him  to sit so I could buckle the seat.  Really fun when we were in Michigan this weekend and he insisted on wearing all day + to bed + to my aunt's Christmas party where everyone dresses up!

So this is old ground for many, new for me since the girls never attached themselves to any one item of clothing so what should I do:

a)  buy 4 of the same shirt and let him wear everyday until he tires or grows out of it

b)  cut holes in it to show him its ruined and have him get used to the fact he can never wear it again

c)  let him wear one day a week and scream the rest and get used to the fact that life is disappointing or

d)  let him wear the same one 24/7 hoping the eventual stink will turn him off and vow never to judge a mom again who's kid is dressed in a nasty shirt at Christmas Eve mass.

  • I can't speak to clothing, but Jackson was so attached to his stuffed elephant I went on Ebay to find two more, so that I could rotate them out and equally wear them out. So I vote for buying multiples.

  • Do whichever one of things will make it easiest on you. Todd went through a period of being very particular about the underwear he wore. Some weeks I did a load of laundry nearly every day and other weeks I dealt with a morning tantrum. It eventually passed.

There is no right or wrong answer, just get through it. :-)

We do this with the girls' lovies.  I don't have any advice on clothing.  I think cutting holes in it could backfire.  What if he wants to wear it with holes?

Some times if dd wants to wear something but it's not  appropriate for the situation.  I'll say "we can't wear that today but you could pick on of these 3 things".  But he might  be too young for that.

  • I'd buy more or do more laundry. When dd was around 2 she decided she hated pants and only wanted to wear skirts. Since it was winter I didn't really have many options for other than pants. It just wasn't worth the hassle fighting her so I did laundry often and bought more skirts.

Dd hasn't work pants since and she is 5.5!! Clearly this was something she cared a lot about! Ha! She is strong willed so it just wasn't worth fighting it. I'd buy him some more shirts. Just think...he will think you are the best mom ever!

  • I'd also probably buy multiples. I agree that cutting holes in it could backfire on you. Sometimes it just not worth the fight. ;)

  • i agree with Amy, choose what will be easiest on you.  Not a fight worth fighting IMO. EJ wore jammies to school far more often than they held PJ days. She is also in team "dresses and skirts" too. So when people buy her jeans I always feel bad knowing they may get worn only once.
