Re: Christmas Plans
We are both off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Christmas Eve we're hoping to do our Christmas together in the morning and have coffee cake and lounge around the house. Then for lunch we'll likely have his mom and brother over and do lunch. Then for dinner we'll go to FIL and SMIL, then church is at 10pm.
Christmas day we get up bright and early and head about an hour away to H's grandpa's. We'll be there till 10 or 11ish, then will likely head to my parents afterward.
So much for having nothing planned this Christmas and starting our own traditions, but I'm good with the plans.

Friday from 330-530 I am hosting a cookie decorating play date
Saturday at Noon we have Christmas with DH's Mom's Dad's side of the family.
Sunday we are doing dinner at MIL's since we won't be there Friday evening like usual and because her boyfriend is leaving to do Christmas in Montana so we want to see them before that.
Monday I have a dentist appt and then a Christmas Party play date that I am bringing mini corn dog muffins to.
Tuesday (Christmas Eve) we have DH's Mom's Mom's side of the family around 2 I think. We are letting Ava Nichol open her stocking there and she will get in her Christmas Jammies before we leave because she will fall asleep on our drive out to my parents. We will put her to bed out there and finish up wrapping and putting presents under the tree. Then DH and I will open our stockings to each other.
Monday-We will wake up at my mom's and do Christmas Morning there and probably have cinnamon rolls.
Then around noon we have Christmas at MIL's most recent ex husband's family.
Then at 3 or 4 we have FIL's Christmas.
Then we will head back out to my parents. Not sure how long we will stay out there but we also have a couple families to see out there to deliver cookies to.
Busy busy busy!

I'm only off work on Christmas Day:(
we're staying in town this year and will probably go to my MIL's for a little while to exhange gifts and relax the rest of the day. I always make a big italian feast for Christmas but my SIL is having surgery Christmas Eve so i'm not really sure how many will be eating this year. so I need to figure that out.
it will be pretty relaxing.

Christmas Eve:
- Get to my parents house around 1pm and see them and my godfather and his wife. We'll be there for dinner and leave around 5-5:30.
- Head to ILs house (40-ish minutes away) to spend the evening with MIL's side of the family. We also go to midnight mass with them. This will be the last year we do this. No way are we taking LO to midnight mass when he's 8 months old.
Christmas Day:
- We'll wake up, I'll put breakfast in the oven. We'll do gifts and stockings with each other. This is seriously the only part of Christmas we really enjoy.
- WHO THE F EVEN KNOWS! - - - Original plan for this year was to see my FIL's side FIRST (the previous years we've done my side first and then ILs. We were hoping to rotate back and forth who goes first on Christmas Day.) My mom always hosts Christmas Day, so we'd be able to show up at 1pm and stay for several hours before switching. We were hoping MIL would be hosting Christmas Day so we could do the same with them. We only just found out on Saturday that DH's aunt is hosting and they're not gathering until 3 or 4. No way will we be able to get away with only being there until 5:30 to go to my parents house to see my aunt's family.
So we'll probably do my side first again this year which means I'll have to deal with my mom bitching about how they don't get to see us for very long on Christmas. Even though we'll see them pretty much the entire following weekend when my brother and SIL come into town AND at my aunt's house for her NYD party.
I think this is the reason I'm not excited about Christmas this year. I don't want to deal with the impending argument with DH nor the crap from my mom.

Christmas Day:
-We then go to my parents for brunch.
At some point in the new year, we'll go visit DH's family. We tried to do it all one year, but they live 3-4 hours away. Between him working until 2pm on Christmas Eve and then me working a long shift on the 26th, it's just too much. Plus, we have a "rule" that we want to wake up in our own house on Christmas morning and have our own time/traditions. This is even more important now that Baby S is on his way.

Christmas will be very low-key this year. My family is 6 hours away and DH's family lives in our area, so we just alternate Thanksgiving and Christmas with our respective families each year, to avoid trying to do so much traveling. So this year is Christmas with my in-laws. We'll do dinner and church with them on Christmas Eve, and then go to their house on Christmas Day to exchange gifts. I'm one of the lucky ones who loves my in-laws, so it should be very chill and relaxing. I'm not currently scheduled to take any extra time off from work (we just get Christmas Day), but I'm considering taking the 26th. I should actually probably request that today, if I'm going to. Hmmmm.
All of these plans are assuming LO doesn't decide to make an early appearance, of course
Love this! I always get excited to use our china too. We've been married 2.5 years, and I've used it exactly twice, haha.

Sounds fine, right? Why did gettingarried ruin Christmas, you ask? Because my Mil doesn't think it is fair that we are seeing my parents Christmas Eve and Christmas, despite having spent the past three Christmas eves ( and parts of Christmas Day) with the ILs. She doesn't think it is fair that on "her holiday" were spending time with my parents. Despite spending 4 hours on thanksgiving with the ILs, on my "parents holiday." For reference, we spent about five hours at my parents. Why isn't it fair, you ask? Because my parents have other children and my H is an only so my parents shouldn't need to spend as much time with me. I honestly wish I could cut her out of my life sometimes.

This is exactly how DH and I feel. And our parents SAY they care that we don't enjoy it...but in reality, if they did, they wouldn't guilt trip us about the holiday.

Christmas eve DH might have to work for a while but We are hosting this year. We always have our Christmas party on Christmas eve, we have dinner around 6 or 7, play games, talk and we eat again lol. We wait until midnight to say merry Christmas to everyone and then we open our gifts at that time. It's a lot of fun and I've always enjoyed it and since getting married DH has really enjoyed it too.
Christmas day we will probably eat leftovers and just hang out doing nothing

Christmas Eve night they have all of their friends over for a cocktail party so we will show W off to all of them and eat and drink.
Christmas morning we will open gifts with his parents and go to his aunt and uncles for the day.
Family Christmas gifts will probably be Friday night. We'll just eat, drink and enjoy each other all week. I can't wait.
Travel safe to those that are!
