NBR: Christmas Stockings

I don't know if we've talked about this because I'm not on here a ton, but what do you put in your DH's stocking and what do you get in yours?  DH and I don't exchange presents and since we aren't really getting presents from our families this year I figured I should make our stockings count.  In the past we mostly just gave each other candy and maybe a paperback or some gift cards but I'm trying to think of something better for this year...

Re: NBR: Christmas Stockings

  • I usually put boxer shorts, a tshirt, some cds and tools on top of shaving gel and razors. Nothing too fancy.
  • We put basically the same thing in ours.  This year DH got a movie, candy, an xbox gift card, and socks.  I bought him some cologne I thought about putting into it, but it was expensive enough that I just made it a present.

  • Some things I've done in the past:

Ornament (sports related or comic book character), flashlight, duct & masking tape, ice scraper, toiletries (shaving cream, aftershave, razors, body wash, cologne), batteries, boxers, under shirts, ribbed tank tops, socks.

  • I usually put razors, shower gel etc.  This year I got him some funky dress socks and eye cream.  I also got him a Christmas ornament.  I think last year I might have put in a starbucks gift card and a grooming kit that came in a travel case.

  • Some candy, small toys & toliettries, and DH usually puts my newest edition to our little Christmas village in mine (he gets the pieces from CVS).
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

I put candy/snack type stuff, toiletries (shave soap, razors), a magazine, a mickey of rye if he's lucky, and sometimes a funny toy or something.

ETA: he basically puts the same thing in mine.

  • I put candy, Chapstick, hair ties ( he has long hair), and typically a couple of small Lego sets. This year there will also be a shot glass measuring cup. In years past occasionally there will be an ornament too. In mine it depends...usually I end up putting stuff in it. Christmas socks and a hairbrush will be in it for sure.

This.  The cats have stockings, too, but they're all just for decoration.

  • Mostly the same but a huge tradition in my family is putting scratch off lottery tickets in the stockings. Also my husband's stocking is significantly larger than mine so I end up fitting quite a few presents in there.

I love it when he puts jewelry in mine. We do stockings last and it's nice to have a "big" surprise still left after we open the presents under the tree!

This year, H is getting in his stocking:
    -Capitals travel mug
-Sour Patch kids, beef jerky sticks, chapstick
-A pair of socks that look like beer from Target's dollar aisle
-A tiny salt and pepper shaker to put in his lunchbox from World Market

I also have a Scattergories card game and a Liar's Dice game, but I'm not sure if they'll fit.

Edit: doing stockings is my favorite.  I LOVE putting them together.  H hates it.  I almost always get 1 or 2 little things in my stocking.

  • Some have already been mentioned -- razors, boxer shorts, toiletries, candy, gift cards, socks... Sometimes a puzzle book or blank book or funky notebook or other office supplies.  Bookmarks, decks of cards, keychains, those sneaker deodorizer balls, fitness doodads. My husband and oldest kid are musicians, so they may get things like guitar picks, strings, etc.

I am responsible for filling all the Christmas stockings, including my own (although DH may slip in extras.)  My stocking is usually similar to theirs - razors, bookmarks, etc.  My stocking this year is expected to include Lara Bars, a new water bottle, some Frixion pens, some items from Staples' arc notebook line, socks, the reusable produce bags I like, (bicyle) tire levers, a fixed circular knitting needle in a size I need for lace, and a candle.
  • A tshirt and a new travel coffee mug.

Usually Brett gets me carmex Chapstick and a book or some office supplies like pens or post its.

  • I made our stockings and didn't use a pattern (my reasoning was it's a sock shape, how hard can it be?). As a result they're GIGANTIC. Like 3 times the normal stocking size. Every year I say I'm going to get us reasonably sized ones but DH loves the humungo ones and they actually are kind of fun to try and fill. It's a challenge every year, haha.

This year, he'll get a tshirt, 2 pint glasses and a stein, a 750 mL bottle of beer, a back scratcher, a card game, 4 laser pointers that strap to your fingers (inside joke), and then whatever amount of candy I need to fill in the spaces.
