I'm crib shopping

trust me, I recognize that I'm probaby a bit ahead of the game on this. but I can't help myself.  I know for the most part what style crib i'd like, but i'm just debating over painted vs. stained.  I really like the painted look, but my sister says once kids can stand in their cribs their mouths immediately go on the side of the crib and she would worry about a paint finish chipping in those spots over time.

any moms have thoughts on this? All cribs below are 3 in 1 convertable cribs

These are the cribs I like:

Re: I'm crib shopping

  • They do tend to bite the rails once the start standing. You can always buy whatever crib you like the most and then get crib rail protectors. You can buy them either as a plastic strip that goes over the top of the rail, or etsy has a bunch of home made cushiony ones that you could even customize to match your nursery.

  • I bought my crib at 8 weeks (well my mom did) because BRU used to do a buy back program where they gave you 25% off a new item for turning in an outdated one....we have them my 33 year old crib...so I definitely not think its too early :). I personally like the brown crib, especially if you are doing a covertible crib. But I jut like darker wood in general. And yes I agree you can get the protectors if you really want the painted look. We bought a cushiony one at BRU.

  • This is my only input - G's is stained and my sister researched the hell out of everything.

I do like the look of the painted, though!
  • Lil never bit her crib, but even wood ones would end up looking funny if they're all eaten up :)  I definitely recommend a convertible crib. And it's not too early- so many times stuff is wrong when it comes or backordered.

I had that thought, but figured there must have been something I didn't know, haha!
  • Its never too early! A girl on my month board ordered her crib at 7 months and it was backordered and then her baby came early and she had no crib for awhile.

That being said, I love the style you're looking at!! Teddy has a painted one. So far so good and that boy chews on everything.

I figure the paint finish must be pretty tough or parents would be freeking that their kids were eating paint because of chipping? right!

Right! And I mean..I'm sure you'll buy a quality crib either way. It's not like you're going to go shopping at Bob's Bargain Basement ;)

  • Our crib is painted. Deacon teethed on the side of it & you can definitely tell it's been chewed on, but it's not awful.
  • I like the all white one of the very bottom, but think the wood stained one would work better for the long run.

    Yay <3 baby stuff!

.... and don't feel back about doing things too "early", my mom has been bugging me for months about going to register as BRU.  I finally gave in and we went on Thursday afternoon.  Apparently, we went to a smaller BRU though, so the selection was kind of sucky.  So I'll probably go back eventually and visit another store.
