  • I don't really like Dr. Seuss.  I'll read it to G, but I'm not a huge fan.

  • I received my IL's Christmas letter. It's written by MIL and there are so many run-on sentences, misspellings, punctuation mistakes and just wrong facts (she got the name of my company wrong - like not even close). It seriously made my head feel like it was going to explode. It looks like it was written by a 3rd grader. The FFFC: While my MIL is a nice woman, I've always thought she wasn't smart. Seriously, it was so bad that I'm not quite sure how she has an office job that requires her to write case studies.

UO within an FFFC: I hate Christmas letters. Just send me a card that says Happy Holidays and call it a day. I don't need your life story.

  • I love that my kid has a love for reading BUT I cannot wait until she learns to read herself. And I need to get some new books because Iam tired of reading the same ones all the ttime but I also know repetition is good for learning.

I'm that dork that totally loves reading other people's Christmas letters!  That being said, I definitely edit them in my head for grammar and spelling mistakes.  Your MIL's letter would probably drive me nuts too!

  • I love the movie The Notebook! I can watch it over and over again and still cry every.time.!!!
  • @bridget0117 Nicholas Sparks books are better. I'm just glad you didn't mention The Last Song or Dear John or then I may have had to go off about how wrong the movies were (or in The Last Son's case actually, the book).

  • @Lynn0514 - I read hers solely to see what she says about DH and me. The winning excerpt this year was:

SIL and BIL are happy, now celebrate the 1 year anniversarys' of being married and home buyers. No 'buyers remorse".

I was like X_X No, no, NO!!!

  • @nightmare_of_beauty, I guess my other FFC is that I'm not a big reader. The last book I read was A Child Called It. :-/ lol. Maybe if I found a good book I would get into reading.
  • @nightmare_of_beauty, I lied. Actually the last book was Oogy. I started reading it and I got bored after like 3 pages.
  • @bridget0117 As an active reader currently torn between my SS book of love and my book club book and unable to make a decision which to read first, I feel I should make a list of books for you to read in hopes that your love of reading will grow.

But if you're anything like an old friend of mine, you won't do it and I will end up just telling you the whole story and you will like that better. And then maybe pay me to write your college Comp papers (fyi I was a freshman in high school and got her all A's).

  • Haha, you have a smart friend @nightmare_of_beauty. (Lol, not really)

Maybe make me a list of like 5 books. (that'll take me until 2015 to finish) :)

  • I don't know.

I guess nonfiction books. I really enjoy stuff based on true stories.
  • Work this week was pointless.  Half days the past two days (I taught 3 30 minute periods across the two days) and today the specials all go to the gym to watch a movie.  I was hoping to teach to wake up...I just want to sleep.

  • I love reading but my confession is that Ava Nichol is almost 2 years old and I have only read one book since she was born. I don't have time to read :( when I read I get totally immersed. Last book I read I started during a rare hot bath and read all night instead of sleeping just to finish it and then regretted it when Ava Nichol had crappy sleep for the rest of the week. I figure I will get back into reading soon enough...maybe when I am done with school haha.

  • @wiggyslilsis I am the same way when it comes to reading. I wanted to bring my two books to work with me because I knew it would be dead, but if I got too into them I wouldn't hear the phone ring.

@bridget0117 I've hijacked this thread enough, you're getting a private message.

  • Ahhh don't leave the thread yet! I'm curious as to what you'd give her to read :) I'm a book lover as well and am in a slump at the moment.

  • Haha! I'll keep it short.

Because she likes the movie the Notebook and nonfiction, I suggested Three Weeks With My Brother. Nicholas and Micah Sparks wrote it together and it is based on Nicholas's life. In the need of a Nicholas Sparks love story, I suggested Safe Haven if she hasn't seen the movie. I also suggest The Guardian, though it has a slow start, it gets very suspenseful!

After that I suggest The Lost Boy also by Dave Pelzer. As I told her, I met him after he wrote his first three books, he is a very nice guy.

After that I suggest Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. His story will make your family seem sane.

Last I suggested a book that is fiction. It is called The Lottery Rose by Irene Hunt. It's such a beautiful and sweet story. You will cry reading it.

I also added in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. My first favorite book and author. I've also read everything by her and The Outsiders is my favorite. She makes an appearance in the movie too!

I had to stop reading and come back to it. My brain hurt too much. Do we think it would be totally out of line if I said, "Hey, want me to proofread this first?" lol

The outsiders was my first favorite book as well. I could probably quote the movie, too. I didn't know she made an appearance though, do you know who she played? you suggested some good stuff, I've read at least half of those. I might check out the ones i haven't read considering we have similar taste.

Waiting on my baby girl <3 EDD 2/5/14
