do you (plan to) make your own baby food?

I have this fantasy of making my own baby food for baby. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who is making their own babyfood (or plan to). If so what system did you get (plan to get)?
I am sorry if this has already been addressed.

Re: do you (plan to) make your own baby food?

  • I plan to... But I'll be a SAHM, so I'll have time. I plan on just steaming everything and using our food processor to make big batches, which I'll then freeze in ice cube trays.

    ...hello out there!

  • I made all of DDs food and plan to make DSs as well. Most things I'd steam or bake until soft and use a blender, immersion blender, food processor or just fork to mash it depending on what it was. If I wanted it thinner I'd add some breast milk.

I also experimented with different spices. Then I would freeze extras in 1 oz ice cube trays that had a lid. Pop them out and put them into a freezer bag once frozen and defrost when I needed them.

I found wholesomebabyfood.com to be a great resource.

  • I plan to, as much as I can. It's just so much cheaper and I can control what exactly is going into the food.

I have a baby bullet that we received for our shower and I'll be purchasing this... http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=15439726&cp=&parentPage=search

Eventually we'll invest in reusable pouches.

  • I made all of Lucy's food. It's super easy. I used the baby bullet system but you really don't need a system. Ziploc steamer bags are awesome (just a little tip).

  • I plan to, I'll probably just boil/steam food and either mash it or use a blender/food processor. I'm hoping I can make all her food and never need to buy any.

  • In an ideal world I would love to make the food myself. I have a coworker who made food for her son. She said she found the food pouches and system on Amazon but didn't mention a brand.

  • Yea.....I'd love to do this but I just bought the organic food pouches instead. Now she gets small pieces of table food so the purees only lasted about 3 months.

  • I made tons of his food by roasting or steaming and then just blending/food processing it. I used baby cubes for freezing. I also bought the organic pouches because they were great for on the go and travel. He still asks for 'sauce' which is the applesauce pouches and make great on the go,self-feeding, spoon-free snacks.

  • Word of caution: I made puréed food for my kid and she hates it. We ended up doing blw and it's so much easier and more convenient. I have a bunch of puréed ice cubes in my freezer no one wants to eat. :/

  • What is BLW?

Baby led weaning. Pretty much skipping purées altogether and giving baby food from the table so to speak. I didn't and don't plan on doing it so I don't know a lot of the specifics, but a lot more people are doing it now and really like it.

  • I made all of Ava Nichol's food from 4-9 months. I got lazy when it came time to start doing meals and stuff. I loved it because there are so many more options!

It was super easy and I got the baby bullet system which I loved because it was the perfect size, always clean when I needed it to be (meaning DH didn't use it and mess it up) and it came with storage containers and an awesome recipe book. We used a rice cooker/steamer to steam all her food :)
