Music you listen to while reading

Hello NBC! I haven't been around in many months (life got crazy) but I'm back! I was reading the end of HP7 last night, and I was listening to some really cool mellow music in the background. I typically do listen to music while I read, and I've noticed that later when I hear a song that I was listening to during a pivotal part of a book, it reminds me of that part of that book. Do you like to listen to music while you read, or do you prefer to read in silence? What kinds of music do you listen to when you read?

I'm one of those people who needs background noise. It doesn't really matter what it is, but it depends on what I'm reading. If it's something I really need to pay attention to and recall, it has to be music. If it's fiction I'm reading for pleasure, the TV or whatever is fine.

Often when I'm working I listen to talk radio or Ted Talks. I can't read and listen to people talking at the same time.

I prefer silence. Otherwise I read to the tune of the song lol.

I'm really sensitive to sounds so any music in the background hijacks my brain. I have a terrible time concentrating with other sounds in the background, music especially.

I usually have silence when I read. Since I got married, I am learning to read with the tv on while he watches it.

If I had my way, I would read in silence, but I'm surrounded by noise in most of the places I have time to read (break room at work namely where people are playing foozeball and air hockey as well as talking on phones, etc). I grew up in a large, boisterous family, though, and got really good at tuning out my environment, so I can read anywhere. Frequently when DH and I are in the car for an hour or more, he'll put on an audiobook that he likes and I'll read my own book. My favorite place to read is on my back porch in the summer with no other sounds around me.

I can't read with the TV on, because I start watching TV, lol. But I can't just sit in silence. I've always been like that though, and I usually have music in the background of everything I do. Sometimes I even have music on when I'm in the shower, lol.

I usually need silence when I read, but I read "Anna & the French Kiss" while laying on a beach listening to Lana Del Rey's first album, and it was magical. Now every time I listen to that album, I can see Anna & Etienne falling in love...It was the perfect soundtrack to that book!
