Re: QOTD 12/24

  • I was about 10.  My brother told me that my mother went to my grandmother's house on Christmas Eve to get our presents from Santa.  When she came home, we snuck out and looked in her car.  He made me remember the wrapping paper.  Sure enough, on Christmas morning, everything from Santa was wrapped in the paper that was in my mom's car.  I still didn't believe him.

I never really stopped believing in Santa.  I know he does not go to every house on Christmas and bring presents, but I do believe that this man is out there, sharing the true Christmas spirit.

I will definitely tell my children about Santa.  It is a fun thing for them to believe in.  I always feel sad for the children in my class who no longer believe.  They are not as excited for the holiday as the children who do still believe.
  • I don't remember how old I was...probably 8 or so. I don't remember actually finding out, though. We did a Christmas one year where we got to pick out all of our presents...I didn't like that Christmas very much, lol.

I'll definitely do Santa with my kids when we have them. I'm not sure how old they'll be when we tell them the truth, but I definitely want to do that. It's magical :)

  • I was pretty young, 5-6 since my sister was 10 years older and a brat.  I never told me parents because even then I loved the idea of Santa... and the fact my nephew was born when I was 7 so I kept it up for him.

  • I don't remember when, but I remember I found out because my parents said Santa brought me the new bike I got.  Unfortunately, I had walked into their closet randomly looking for something and saw the bike like a week or so before Christmas.

My stepdaughters still believe in Santa.  The oldest is 7 and I hope she still believes in him for another couple of years.  They get so excited about the whole idea of him and I don't want to see that innocence go yet.

  • I can't remember either. I do remember that my parents told me that Santa wasn't coming to the door anymore with Christmas Eve gifts but I don't know how old I was. (Backstory: Santa aways rang our doorbell on Christmas Eve and dropped off a toy and new pjs. It was an awesome tradition.)

I will definitely tell my kids about Santa. :)

  • I was 11. I already suspected that there was no Santa, but the final straw was when I opened the door to my mom's room to get more wrapping paper on Christmas eve, and found a puppy standing there! She was 'Santa's' gift to my younger sister. I ended up staying up late helping my mom wrap all the presents and keeping an eye on the dog. It was such a special bonding experience for my mom and I, and I felt like such a grown-up that I wasn't even upset that there was no Santa. I will definitely be keeping the Santa mythos alive with my own kids. It's such a magical part of childhood.

  • I don't remember when I found out there wasn't a jolly old bearded guy, but I agree with the above sentiment from @sjs1012 that I do still believe in Santa in a way.  I think parents who keep the Christmas spirit and people who do good things for others are Santa, and that in doing so we "keep him alive" so to speak.

On a side note, as a kid I wondered why Santa never drank the milk I set out for him and only ate the cookies.  I asked my dad once and he said, "Maybe you should try beer next year!"
    :))
Yea, I was told Santa loved beer and an orange.... So that's what we put out.

    Hi, I'm a redneck
