I'm afraid to sleep..

I was home by myself today, DH had to work. Someone knocked at the door, I didn't answer... But I watched the guy walk door to door.

This evening, a neighbor knocked on the door so DH answered it. Someone broke into his house today while he was gone. Asked if we saw anything.

Uh, scary!!

We don't talk to this neighbor much, and honestly he seemed a little fishy. But the cops showed up and spent a good hour at his house. But as he left, DH told me to never open the door when he's not home.

I'm afraid to go to sleep. :( Tomorrow may be a rough day at work.

  • Ky that's so scary! Did you tell the police about the guy going door to door?

I always wonder - in a case like that, is it better to make sure they know that you're home (without answering the door, somehow?) or to pretend that you aren't so they leave you alone (but then possibly try and break in because they think you aren't home?)

  • Eek!  That's scary!  I've always wondered the same thing as well!  I don't like answering the door by myself either.  I won't if it's at night.

  • Super unnerving. That's nice the neighbor informed you there was a break in. That way you can maybe be a bit more proactive or aware. Anytime there is a break in or something that involves the police out complex informs us.

Did you tell the police about the guy knocking on doors? Maybe that was his quick way of casing the neighborhood? And maybe it seemed less suspicious because people go door to door selling/ preaching often enough?

I always answer the door. What freaks me out is when I hear knocking on our door/ the doorbell and no one is there.
  • Oh man! This is prime time for break-ins. I've read more stories of home invasions this Christmas than I can ever remember.
