Sixth Anniversary 500 Love Its 1000 Comments Name Dropper
in Getting Pregnant
I'm a pro charter but I'm a rookie at OPKs. With my wonky cycles it's been difficult to know when to start POAS. I've decided to try this month in preparation for TTC again, so I'm going by my CM to tell me when to start testing. So my questions are: 1) is it morning, night, or both? Should I avoid FMU? 2) a positive OPK is when the test line is darker than the control? Or the same?

    I tested usually three times a day around what I thought was my fertile window. Yes, avoid FMU and yes it is positive when it is as dark or darker than the control line. GL!

    dx:  Unexplained IF (mild MFI)

     TTC since May 2011, 1 year trying, and then 3 TI, 2 IUI = BFN

    IVF #1 (May 2013):  Antagonist Protocol: 
    24R, 18M, 15F w/ICSI; 5dt of 2 early blasts, no frosties = BFN
    IVF #2 (August 2013):  Lupron Stop Protocol: 
    28R, 23M, 15F w/ICSI; 5dt of 1 partially hatched blast, 7 frosties = BFP
    EDD 5/23/14, blighted ovum (6w6d), D&C (8w6d)
    FET #1 (April 2014):  transferred 2 5d blasts = BFP

    @looneylife that link is awesome, thank you! I use cheapies from the dollar store here which work, but have poor instructions. Instead of googling I knew it would be quicker to go straight to the expert panel of GP.

    I know all the instructions say not to use FMU but my RE said to so I'd always do that because it was easy and then test again mid morning and/or evening if it looked like it was close to positive.

    I always used FMU and it never proved inaccurate for me.  If it looked close, I would test again either in the afternoon or evening or sometimes all three.

    I'm with ecinereb and sparklingdiamond on using FMU. I always ended up getting a + with it (and I can never hold it long enough during the day to test later and have it be concentrated enough).
