Test Post - Off BCP...Hair Loss??

I haven't been able to post anything for two days.  Let's see if this works.

I came off my BCP about 3 weeks ago and have been losing hair left and right.  I know this is due to the hormone levels changing/balancing but it's getting a bit ridiculous.  My friend claims she didn't have this issue coming off of hers, however, she had horrible acne instead.  My acne is actually better being off my BCP than it was on it.  I started taking prenatal vitamins at the same time I came off of my BCP, but it doesn't seem to be helping in the hair department.  Any other suggestions?

Also, being that this is my first cycle off my BCP, my body seems to be having a "typical" *though I know from lurking, anything fertility related is far from typical* cycle by way of CM.  Is this a reliable method at all to track? We are TTA until April/May (buying a house and moving will be stressful enough), so I plan to let us try naturally for a few months before I start temping.  Just wondered if anyone had any success by only tracking CM. Sorry if I seem naive.

Thanks for any info you ladies share.  It's appreciated!

  • Do you mean you're NNT? I think there have been a few ladies who have used CM to track cycles, but I believe they also use OPKs. Hopefully someone can chime in with more input.

  • Success with TTA by tracking CM only seems like a long shot. If you're serious about TTA without hormonal or barrier methods, you need to start temping. Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility to learn how.

I did not have hair loss after stopping BCP, but I did develop acne for the first time in my life and still have it almost 3 years later. Everyone adjusts differently.

  • I agree with @lilliesandvino... TCOYF is a great resource to start with. Also, I had the acne but no issues with hair loss. Hope you get that figured out soon, as I'm sure that's stressful!

  • I had major issues with hair loss due to hormone issues. I finally went to a dermatologist and he said the treatment he'd put me on isn't safe when trying to become pregnant or when pregnant.  Since you're trying to avoid for now, maybe go see a dermatologist.  Prenatals actually helped with my hair loss after a couple months.   Good luck!

Sorry - with me retyping that post so many times, I forgot to mention that we are using a barrier method until April/May.  Definitely left out a big piece of info there. :)

    Thanks ladies for the advice!
  • I have had good success avoiding using CM but we also use condoms when I have watery/EW CM. It can be very difficult to monitor CM accurately right off of BC because your hormones may not be be acting 'nornally'. In the first year off of BC I was not able to see major changes in my CM like I do now.

  • Thanks, lindsayandjamie.  Not to share TMI but I definitely could tell when my watery/EW time period was.  I was actually quite surprised that my body was showing me signs of possible fertility right away.  I haven't had a non-BCP cycle since I was 17 so I don't remember at all what it was like.  I'm hoping it bodes well for the future.  Only time will tell. :)
  • My first 2 cycles off BC were pretty much clockwork. I wasn't charting fully, so I don't have any idea at this point what my CM was like, but they were "regular" cycles, as far as being a month long, just like on BC. It wasn't until the third cycle that everything went crazy. Every body adjusts differently. Although, I certainly hope your cycles remain regular for you. It certainly makes life easier.
