Re: QOTD 12/30

  • I left private practice and traditional law for a job where I get to write and edit all day.  I'm still a lawyer, but I get to do way more enjoyable stuff.  I know I gave up the "golden handcuffs" and won't make as much as big firm lawyers, and I have zero f*cks to give about that :)  I'm happy!

  • This year was a big year for me! I had my second baby after being told at 16 I'd never have children. I also started up 2 small businesses of my own making cakes and crochet work and so far they have both been relatively successful and I am super proud of all of it!! :)
  • So much!  DH and I had a goal of making our first married year our "Year of fun."  We accomplished having a ton of fun but we both overcame some health issues thrown at us.  I'm in the process of learning how to cook from scratch because of my dietary restrictions.  It's going well with a few failures here and there.  DH is a picky eater and last night was one of my biggest triumphs with food, he wouldn't shut up about how good it was!  I'm thinking about starting a blog with all of my cooking adventures.

  • Biggest accomplishments:

Career: Going to Washington D.C. / Capitol Hill twice to advocate for science research funding

Personal: Going to Italy for 3 weeks with DH

2013 was a great year for us, but 2014 has so many exciting changes to look forward to! We're moving to a new state and starting new jobs (well, hopefully I find a job!)! Maybe, we'll start to TTC in 2014...that depends on a lot of things though.  Also, I turn 30 at the end of 2014...it's going to be a BIG year for us!

  • I am most proud of the fact that we bought our house this year. It has been an amazing roller coaster ride and in the end, I have loved every minute of it.

  • I'm very proud with our financial goals this year. We paid off almost 15k in debt. Our last credit card will be paid off next month, last student loan and car payment in may (depending on tax refund). I feel like a huge burden is off us. Now if work is slow for H, we can just back off our snowball/savings. Before we would have to dip into savings without hope to repay it.

  • Work Related: This year, we doubled our sales and purchases at my company, which is awesome!  I'm hoping 2014 will be an even better year. :)

Personal: I kept saying I would get a reduction in 2013 and I am happy I was able to do that.  We also paid down some debt and did some more remodeling.  My goal for 2014 is pay off almost all our debt and finish all the remodeling.

  • Getting pregnant and carrying our baby boy this far has been a huge accomplishment for us this year. Our relationship underwent the stress of infertility, and we are still trying to fix DH's issues. Even after all the stress and pain, I love him as much (if not more) than I ever did. I think he feels the same way too since he is constantly thanking me for being by his side at every appointment and being his advocate. His father has had some health problems this year and his mother had not been a good advocate for his father, so DH really respects me for that. I have even asked him if he wants me to back off, but he doesn't like to go to appointments alone and I am the medical one of the two of us.

We have also gotten to a point where we are living without a roommate for the first time in our marriage. I have been very financially responsible in the last year and we are trying to build our credit so we can buy a house by the end of next year!
  • I am proud at the amount of money we've saved in the past year.  We started looking for houses in February.  We've saved up enough to have a significantly larger down payment than we would have a year ago.  Also, H paid off one student loan this year and will have another one paid off in 2 weeks :)  He'll have one more left and as long as we stay in a similar financial situation, it will be paid off in about 2 years.
  • See siggy pic:)

  • Only thing coming to mind right now is the fact that I got my washer and dryer paid off. Kinda sad that I can't really use them right now.

Also kinda proud that it will be one year this upcoming February that DH and I have been on our own. Even if our little rental house is a nightmare most days, it's given us a chance to bond and really get to know each others quirks.

  • Buying our house :) I've always wondered if I'd ever be financially stable enough. It's brought H and me a lot closer.
