On to plan C?

edited December 2013 in Getting Pregnant
I have to start off by saying I find this "community" as well as similar ones on TN and TB, so helpful! I am very grateful to all of you who are willing to share your stories and experiences with the rest of the group. Thank you all so much!

As some of you may or may not know, my IF diagnosis is DOR (see siggy). DH and I had 2 unsuccessful IUI's with Clomid over the summer (Plan A). To make matters worse, my response to Clomid with the second cycle was virtually non-existent. Since we moved and had a pretty stressful last 6 or so months, the decision was to stop with the charting, OPK's and fertility tx until we can be in a better place financially to do IVF (hopefully, 7/2014). Well, of course, my impatience has gotten the best of me, and after reading some posts from fellow DOR ladies and looking at the evidence base, we've decided to give Plan C a try. :) This will include a 3-month trial of DHEA, Co Q 10, vitamin D, and my usual prenatals. I will also resume charting and OPK's, and we're gonna give Preseed a try since I haven't had EWCM since I started tracking last year. If it doesn't work, then we'll meet again with RE in April, as planned, to discuss IVF in July (Plan B)

Have any of you ladies had experience with any of these supplements or Preseed? Any pointers or things I should look out for? Also, do any grads have extra test strips for CBFM that I can buy off of you?

P.S. IF sucks!

  • I can't speak to the supplements, but Preseed doesn't help you get pregnant. It's just a sperm friendly lubricant. If you need/want a lubricant it's the recommended brand, but otherwise there's no real benefit to it.

  • Thanks, @LooneyLife... I wasn't anticipating that Preseed would get me pregnant, but I thought it might help since I haven't had the typical EWCM. Shouldn't hurt anything at least, right?

I'm a fellow DORer but I think my numbers were WAY crappier than yours (they didn't find ANY AMH in my system). I was on the same vitamin cocktail and I didn't have a response however other DOR ladies responded well. If I remember correctly it did work for @pinkinprovidence with her IUI, maybe she will chime in.

  • We were using preseed but one thing my H noticed was if I used it internally with the applicator they give you, it got too slippery and he would lose sensation making it harder for him to ummm finish. So we stuck to using it mostly external. You can try drinking green tea to help with the cm. Also, OP, make your H eat celery and lots of it....trust me, it helps with the amount of swimmers produced. And the other thing, which may or may not help - we found rear entry position worked best to prevent 'leakage' rather than 'missionary'. Hope this helps and GL ;)
  • @blueeyedblossom - thanks for remembering my post! I was beginning to think they would go to waste.  Glad they won't!

Thanks for all of the info! :) OOC, do you ever try the "Instead Soft cups" to help with the leakage problem? I was thinking about adding those to our regimen because we seem to have the same problem.

Oh, I've never heard of those, but I guess if it is supposed to help get the job done without killing the mood too much, then it's worth a shot, no? Once we switched it up, the leakage was no longer a problem at all....

Softcups are actually menstrual cups. I started using them several months ago. I use the one-use disposables, but they also make one to use for the full length of AF, and then throw out, unlike Diva cups or Lunettes, which you reuse cycle after cycle.

I never tried using them to keep stuff up there after ST; DH said he could feel it in there the one time we tried having ST during AF with one in place (to prevent any mess).

I have heard of other people using them after ST to hold everything in, although I know that they are not FDA approved for that purpose. I'm actually thinking about getting a Diva cup for AF, but haven't gotten the courage yet. :) Thanks for your input Lucky! And thank you everyone for your support...
