iCloud

I don't get it. It told me I don't have enough storage left, so I signed into iCloud to delete some stuff, but my pictures aren't anywhere. What am I backing up if not my pictures? I have it turned on to back them up but no 'pictures' icon shows when I log into iCloud.

Re: iCloud

  • All of your apps, bookmarks, web history, contacts, etc. back up to it. Your pictures should be there as well though which is odd. They take up the most space on my iCloud. I pay the $20 a year for extra storage. Did you do another back up after you turned your picture option back on?

  • I use dropbox to back up my pictures, and I still haven't ran out of room after 3 years.  It automatically uploads when I get into a place with wifi.  Might save you $20/year @philaphan.

@mana8503 so would I just download the app for the iPad and iPhone? Is everything linked to your Apple ID or is it seperate? What if you get a new phone, will it automatically put your pictures on it?

Eta: I just looked and it seems like between all of my apple devices I use around 7GB of storage. Dropbox offers 5gb, the same as Apple. Thank you though!

  • I have andriod, so I have no idea.  I downloaded dropbox on my computer, or I can just go on the website if I'm at my mom's house.  I also back up the good, photobook worthy pictures on shutterfly from my phone.

But how many of that is pictures and the rest iphone settings?  I take a ton of pictures and it's still only 50% full, and I have a few ebooks on it.

  • Around 2gb is pictures and video. The rest are apps, which I keep on because if I get a new phone I hate having to redownload everything. It also puts whatever I have on my phone to my iPad. My music from iTunes is another 2gb, and the iPad has about 1.5gb on that by itself.

I was always told photos don't back up to iCloud. They're all in your photostream, but get purged every so often, so take care not to delete the ones you really want.

I back up to dropbox, but not knowing where my photos were would really stress me out.
  • I have all my apps as NO to iCloud, but yes to pictures. When I sign on to iCloud my contacts and calendar are there, but not my pictures.
