With the expected move to the new house at the beginning of August I am starting to research our tv/internet/phone options. I tried searching for previous posts regarding the above.
We aren't too overly concerned about a landline but with some bundles it is cheaper to get the phone then not.
Anyways, if anyone has any insight to the above options I would greatly appreciate it.
I want to try and keep the cost as low as possible, but we are the type of family that watches HBO, Showtime, and the sports channels so unfortunately I don't think we can get away with basic cable
And we also DVR a lot of shows to watch after the kids go to bed. Based on the above, I have a feeling, we will be around 200/monthbut that is just makes me throw up alittle in my mouth.
Re: Comcast Xfinity vs. Verizon Fios vs. Direct TV vs. Other
I refuse to have a dish because I am snobby about them.
We have Fios at our house and it was a pretty good deal when we got it. We don't have any premium channels, but have phone, internet, cable with an HD DVR and a regular HD box for around $110/month. Verizon is always running specials.
i just went through this since we moved and needed new service. i didn't consider direct tv but did consider xfinity and fios.
i know that my IL's hated fios because they felt nickeled and dimed. they went from xfinity to fios then back to xfinity and are much happier. there were a ton of channels on fios that were useless and it was always confusing for us to try to use the guide and find something to watch. on the flip side, my BIL still has fios and they must like it.
when it came down to cost xfinity won. we don't need a landline so i never bother to discuss the bundle with it. i hate that comcast will now advertise their prices but not tell you that it doesn't include the monthly cost of the box, etc. we don't need premium channels or DVR. they offered the usual plan with 2 years free HBO and 3 months free starz (or showtime, i forget..we watch neither because we find that they both are lousy for us) and DVR at $109. i still didn't like this price. he finally came down to $99. i took that but still hate it.
when i have the time i am going to look in to the cost of hulu and the various sports subscriptions that go along with apple tv to see if that would be cheaper for us in the long run. DH is happy as long as he can watch baseball, football and hockey live. if he can't, it is non negotiable.
Comcast is the devil.
Seriously. I will never give them another cent of my money.
We've had DirecTV for the last 7 years and have been very happy with it.

I have noticed that people in the South Hills have way more issues with Comcast than we ever have in the North Hills. I had one issue in the 13 years we have been in our current house and they sent a tech out on the 4th of July last year to fix it. And he was not only fixed the issue (our box was suddenly not compatible with our television) but also replace the wiring coming into the house because it was getting old.
We have always had decent customer service with minimal waits.
Another reason to hate Comcast.
