Another ACA positive (pr)

Did you know, that if you get pregnant after September 1st you no longer have to pay 2 deductibles throughout the pregnancy?  It used to be that if you had a $2k deductible annually then you would be on the hook for that first $2k in Dr bills from Sept-Dec 31st, then another $2k from Jan 1 till the due date.

Now anything you pay after September 1st will be applied toward your deductible and out of pocket expense for the next 12 months.

Now if only people could begin to realize that ACA isn't the worst thing in the world.

Re: Another ACA positive (pr)

  • Do you know if this is the same if your deductible starts over July 1st? I'm pretty sure that my period restarts sometime in the summer. I'm afraid that I will run into the scenario you described if baby comes late.

  • FWIW, my policy period resets May 1. My REs financial lady just called me about my upcoming Hysterocopy.  When she spoke with my insurance today, they said my deductible has been met.

Of course, I'm also ditching that plan, and jumping on H's..  just to make things a little more complicated. ha.

But if I stayed with mine, she said the deductible has been met, which leads me to believe it must reset in May also.

  • Deductibles and/or Coinsurance all reset at the beginning of your plan. It doesn't matter when in the year it is.

  • @bremae Thank you for clarifying.

It makes me wonder why they have it written up as being anything after Sept 1.  I would assume this copy I received at work was just for our insurance, but ours renews February 1st not January 1.
Unless it's just a generalization for people who purchased from the Marketplace since their policies would begin January 1.

  • No problem @brij2006 I deal with coins/deducts at work a lot unfortunately.

It is most likely a genaralization. But it's still weird since those plans didn't start until Jan 1st.

Well that was a bit uncalled for.

Guess I've seen more positives than negatives come from this.

As usual, a sound, reasoned argument. You got schooled, brij!
I was really looking forward to a bag of popcorn and reading how it's the worst thing in the world.  Guess not.

  • I think I'm pretty well qualified to debate the issue, but I already know how this is going to play out on here and you are simply not worth my time. I don't respect you, you don't respect me, and therefore neither one of us will be able to effectively debate the issue without letting our differences get in the way. This place seems to be more of a "good for you/you're a stupid stupid person" kind of forum rather than a rational debate kind of place. That's why I won't get into it on here with you, but rather say that you are wrong. See what I did there? If I had called you a stupid stupid person I'd have gotten flagged... Oh wait.
