  • Ava Nichol just had cookies for breakfast. I left them on the couch last night and she found them, opened them up and started eating them. Oh well. That will teach me to leave out my cookies I suppose.

I will still feed her real breakfast in a little bit when I eat.

  • We got between 6 and 9 inches of snow.  Every other house near us has either shoveled or is in process, with the exception of ONE neighbor.  I am not allowed to shovel this year - and DH is upstairs, working.  I hate being the slacker house on the block!

  • I love hearing about all the shoveling and snow and stuff. I have never shoveled snow or seen anyone doing it...well maybe but it was like a drastic measure not something we just do because it snowed.

We don't really get that much snow and if it snows that much everything closes down and the roads ate awful but it is okay because it will be gone in a couple days.

  • I have another confession:

TL;DR an obscure relative doesn't vaccinate or take her kid to the doctor and I now want to avoid her.

An obscure relative (DH's ex step brother and his GF) do not vaccinate their daughter who is almost a year younger than DD. We haven't had much of a relationship with them lately...like since her DD was 5 months old. She is trying to post anti vaccine stuff and say that is why she doesn't vaccinate but I know from past stuff with her that she is just too wrapped up in her own stuff to get her kid to the doctor on time. So not only is she not vaccinating but she is just not taking her to the doctor. She knows her weight and length from her WIC spots so doesn't think there is any reason to bring her to the doctor.

Anyway, DH's ex step dad wants to see us more and he was going to start having gamenight with eeveryone. I told DH last night that I don't think we can do that because now that I know for sure (she posted on FB about it) that she doesn't vaccinate or take her to the doctor...I don't want to bring my kid around them anymore. DH said that was fine and we would just find other time to see him.

Am I overreacting to the no vax thing? Last time we saw them (her DD was 5 mo) she was all caught up on her vax but I guess she hasn't had any VAX's since then and she is 10 mo now. It won't be hard to avoid them it just interferes with the game night thing.

  • I don't know if this is a FFC but it's definitely a confession. I ugly cried for almost two hours yesterday and was on the verge of tears the rest of the day. I cried again this AM. It's all because of DH and our finances.

He always has bad news about something at his job and he is only going to get paid for 40 hours for the last two weeks. He works with special needs kids and if they don't show up to school or don't have school, he doesn't get as many hours. It's not his fault that he doesn't make a lot of money. The job market sucks in this area and he has an education degree and that market sucks even worse in PA right now.

I just get so frustrated because every time I think we can get ahead it is always something new that pops up. I'm just very overwhelmed thinking of the new costs due to baby and also having to be the breadwinner and a wife/mother too.

@uptowngirl2009& @wiggyslilsisI highly recommend the book, Smart Couples Finish Rich by David Bach. It's a huge help to get you and your H to understand your relationship with money and your goals.

  • Oh I am just full of confessions today.

Remember how I said this time of year makes me want to move back in with my parents?

Well we just spent almost two weeks out there through the holidays and I was so ready to get back home. I like having my space and being in charge of my daughter. I don't mind other people helping but she got a really bad rash and way constipated because my mom just doesn't believe she has a milk intolerance. And DD's sleep schedule is all messed up because people woke her up earlier than she is used to.

Now we are talking about getting a duplex so we can live very near each ithe

We are actually doing okay now but just working to pay down some debt. DH getting his CDL and a good paying job has helped a lot but now we need to learn good habits.

That's by far the hardest part.  We finally realized last month that we make almost double what we did 5 years ago, and we have the same bills we did then.  So our spending habits have to change too.

@wiggyslilsis - It's better that you came to this conclusion now before actually moving back in with them or buying a house together!

@saisongbird I'm pretty sure I would beat you in slacker house. Only reason my driveway is shovel because some awesome neighborhood kids did it for me last night. We're suppose to get more snow this weekend so I plan on having some cash on hand in case they come back.

Confession: I am praying they come back! I shoveled snow at my last job for 3.5 years!

@wiggyslilsis And how does she plan to explain to schools that she didn't get vaccines for her daughter once that time comes?

@Uptowngirl2009 I worry about money a lot too. We've got a firm plan for our finances at the moment which has really helped me with the worry. I know so many people with less than what we have and I'm sure less than what you have that have more than just one baby.

@LuckyAngel07 You sit your butt down and don't even think about shoveling snow!

  • @uptowngirl2009 I work in a school too, luckily my position covers me for snow days, but I always feel awful for the employees that don't have that. I know a girl that drove this morning in the snow so she could get hours with a client. It's actually a huge part in why I haven't pursued a higher position in that department.

My FFC: My niece that I'm estranged from messaged me on Facebook asking me to add her as a friend because she couldn't add me. I'm ignoring it, even though it clearly says "read" underneath the message and I know she can see that. I can't go through being involved with her or my sister again - it's too much heartache for me. So, I will act like a teenager and ignore her.

  • @brij2006 I will have to check out that book. We are going to try the debt snowball from Dave Ramsey to get some of our debts paid off in the next two years. That will help a lot. We make enough money but just have too many debts. And right now it looks like we will either be paying for daycare/nanny this fall or buying groceries. There is also the option that DH will have to SAH and try to find an evening/weekend job but I am not so sure he could even find that at the moment.

It wasn't always like this. DH had a better paying job when we bought our house but right after we moved in he lost it (he said he got laid off but I really think he just got fired). If we had known that we would have never even considered buying the house. It just sucks.

  • @nightmare_of_beauty I don't think she has a plan. As far as I know you just have to sign a paper that says that vaccines are against your beliefs. But like I said, she couldn't be bothered to take her kid to the doctor. I got on her case for weeks to set up her 6 month appt and she finally did it at 7 months 1 week and she said they couldn't do the vaccinations then because baby had a fever and as far as I know she never went back.

I am just done with having a relationship with them anyway and this just kind of sealed the deal.

  • @Uptowngirl2009  I totally understand what you mean!  DH and I don't make bad money, but I have so much student loan debt and it takes a huge chunk of our monthly income.  I also worry about having to pay for daycare!  But we have been doing the Dave Ramsey thing for a little over a year now and it has really helped us free up some money.  We have been able to pay off a lot of our cc debt!
