A girl never forgets her dress

I got an e-mail from Goodreads today and on the side banner had some book jackets and one had a bride on it.  After just a small glance, I thought the bride in the photo was wearing my wedding dress so I clicked the picture.  Sure enough, it was my dress.  I tried showing DH and he didn't seem to care nearly as much as I did.  I figured my other May girls would get my excitement.

Single by Saturday (The Weekday Brides, #4)
Anyone have any fun plans this weekend?  Whatever they are, stay warm ladies!  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend :)

  • I would read that book JUST because of the dress. That is fantastic.

And masey! Hi! And congrats :-).

Nothing too exciting this weekend. It's coooooold so hopefully inside things. Maybe book or sewing things.

I spayed Aspen yesterday and she is the biggest sissy of sissies so it's quite dramatic in this household.

  • I agree with Aggie, I'd read that book if it had my dress on it!  I totally get your excitement!!

    Masey! Congratulations!!!

Aggie - Poor puppy! She just wants extra lovin's! hahah!

We don't have weekend plans, except to go to TJMaxx to buy new glasses. We've broken almost every single one of our tall ones. We have like 3 left, so I'd say it's time to buy more. Last time we had friends over we had to drink out of our small glasses. hahah!

I'm trying to set up a dinner date with some girlfriends of mine from school, and it's proving quite hard and reminding me why I don't have many friends. It's so hard staying friends when it's almost impossible to meet up with people!

  • Congrats Masey!!  Are you going to find out if it's a girl or boy?  When are you due?

Aggie - sorry about Aspen :(  Is it normally a long recovery time?  You did the surgery yourself?  For some reason I thought it would be like human doctor's where they aren't supposed to operate on a loved one.

jlq - good luck with the dinner arrangements.

  • Morning everyone!!

Life is good here! Busy yesterday so checking in on a Saturday!

Nice work spotting the dress lbv! I put my dress on at least for our anniversary. I couldn't bear to cut it up for a baptism gown/outfit for ds1 because it was so soon after our wedding.

Congrats Masey!! When are you due!! So exciting! Life with two is fun so far!! How far apart will yours be?

    Poor puppy!
  • We have also been in the same situation with glass jlq but more from dh's inability to bring glasses up from the basement when he comes up. Grrrrr. We got 2 boxes of glasses for our wedding and somehow have broken very few.
  • Haha yes I spayed her myself.  Its a little different with people and animals and that is one reason.  She really needs to stay pretty quiet for 7 days and another 7 before she should jump and do flips.  But with a puppy its difficult keeping them that quiet.  H asked if I had drugs to sedate her :P.

I don't think I fit into my wedding dress anymore.

  • OH MY GOD.

SO MUCH FUN IN THIS THREAD.

Okay, I'm going to go read it now.
  • How was Florida Joy?

  • CONGRATS Masey!!!  I was actually just thinking about you the other day.  I was wondering if you'd ever wander over here to say hello and then THERE YOU WERE.  Life is crazy.  As is this ridiculous weather.

Hi MONO!!  Long time no see!!  What's new??

EEEEE - have you fallen off the planet?  Talk to us.  What's new?

Not much is new with us.  We're back from Florida.  It was a really very nice vacation.  We had a great time - Disney, SeaWorld, and Universal.  We had Butterbeer, met Minnie, played with stingays, and took a thousand pictures.

I was very ready to come home six days later.  I temp and chart my cycles so I'm well aware that my luteal phase is 13 days.  When my luteal phase reached day 17 (one day beyond normal and highly suggestive of pregnancy), I may or may not have totally freaked out since we were still in Florida and refused to test around my in-laws.  We finally made it home (damn Hercules!!!) and I got my period on day 18.  I have no idea what happened there since I couldn't test earlier.

Big life decisions.  Scary as hell.
  • Ha Joy you are cracking me up. Glad FL was fun.

Your LP story made me laugh. I can see you panicking. Glad you are home safe and sound (and staying warm).

  • PANICKED.

But, oddly, I'm not scared of the kid part.  We're okay with that.

...I'm terrified of morning sickness.  Terrified.  I'm convinced it's going to be three straight months of puking and I couldn't gather myself up to facing it in Florida.  Jay was a trooper, though.  We finally could talk freely about everything when we drove to the airport (privacy, finally).  I was like "My heart is pounding.  I can't feel my hands!"  Haha.  He was awesome.  My Jay is awesome.

And, I had no one to tell that story to so you all got to hear it.  Sorry.  Thanks for listening?
  • Yeah, I know I fell off the face of the earth but I'm back and plan to stick around.  I definitely missed you ladies :)

I can absolutely understand your freak out about your LP.  I've had one of those recently but then when AF showed up, I was disappointed.  But the disappointment was actually a good thing because it means that I do really want this, ya know?  But I'm sure if/when I get a BFP, I'll flip the F out.

So how does butterbeer taste?  Did you get your own wand?  I'm listening to the last HP and watched all the movies--expect for the ones based on the last book--over break.  So I'm extremely curious about your whole experience there.

What was your favorite park?  How awful was it returning to this horrible weather?  Was it just you and Jay or did anyone else go with you guys?

Oh no, EEE!  I'm sorry you had similar experience and didn't get the results you wanted.  There was just way too much going on last week for me to think rationally about any of it.  I'm hoping next month allows me to be a bit cooler about facing one of my biggest fears...  We sat in front of a six year old who had an epic meltdown on the plane ride home.  I still didn't know if I was pregnant or not and found the kid so annoying.  I promptly burst into tears.  TOO MANY EMOTIONS.

Woo!  Harry Potter!  What was your favorite book?  Movie?  How do you feel about the whole story?

Butterbeer was lovely.  It was very caramel-y.  You have your choice of a cold drink (looked like beer) or an iced/slushy version.  We went for the slushy.  We could only finish half of it since it was sweet and heavy, but definitely delicious.

The rest of the experience was ... um ... crowded.  It's in one of the Universal Studio parks and it just can't handle the crowds quite like Disney can (in my experience).  The entire Harry Potter area is small and the stores are even smaller, but nearly everyone in the park is shoved in there.  It was overwhelming with people.  What we saw and experienced without freaking out was super cool, but the crowds really killed it.

When you go, try to find the least crowded day in the entire year!  It was so crowded that we had to get a timed ticket that told us when we were even allowed to enter the Harry Potter section.  When it was our time, the massive wall of people trying to get in at the same time was epic.

We brought home pumpkin juice and chocolate frogs.  I've been dying to tear into a chocolate frog since we bought it, but we still haven't.  I want to see those silly cards on the inside.

EDIT: My card was Godric Gryffindor.
  • Oh yes, I could understand how that would be a complete rollercoaster of emotions.  It's a very emotional situation and you are well within your rights to have a meltdown.

That's really cool about the butterbeer and the chocolate frogs.  I wonder whose card you are going to get!  I'm glad you had a fun time even if it was chaos.

Ummmm I like the books but I don't LOVE them like everyone else seems to.  I feel like if I had just watched the movies, that would have definitely been sufficient to get the overall story.  But I like the books better than the movies because they are more in depth than the movies allow for.

I guess my issue is that it seems to be the same.exact.story in every.single.book and for that reason, I didn't really have a favorite.  It's the same main characters fighting the same bad guy just in different ways.  But I definitely see why people are obsessed and why the books are so loved.  The whole magical world that J.K. Rowling created is absolutely amazing and let's you use your imagination which is fun.

They are good books just not my cup of tea.  And yes Aggie, I am glad that I've read (errrr listened to) them.  If only for the fact that I now understand a lot of references that people make (BB specifically even though she's not around anymore.)

  • Oh man, Joy. I'd have been freaking out majorly if I was you. I could not have had the willpower to not test. I would have found some way to do it without the inlaws knowing. But I have this immense need to know things as soon as I possibly can.
It sounds like you guys had a great time, minus the crowds!
I really want to go to Disney and see all that stuff, but the crowds would drive me bonkers. I hate big crowns of people.

E - I just finished the latest Stephanie Plum book. I was so not impressed with it. Is she writing more? I'm just ready for the series to end. I'm kind of annoyed by it all. Did you read it yet?

  • Yeah I read it and I have the same feelings as you.  Just end the series already.  Have her decide between Ranger and Morelli and be done with it.  The books aren't good anymore and she's just phoning it in at this point.  Ugh, it just makes me mad.

PS - Team Morelli all the way!

  • Maybe the next book will be the last one. It kind of seemed like she might have been working towards it in this book, with Stephanie thinking of getting a new job and trying to be domestic. But ya, the flip flopping between Ranger and Morelli is just ridiculous.

  • Joy and E I can't wait until you announce you are going to be moms. Knowing you are trying is exciting times :-). *sigh*

We are almost ready to take that road and I am so anxious. Most days I am so ready. SO ready. Others I am like aaaaahhhhhhh I am not sure i am good enough to raise another human.

E I am really glad you read the books! You didn't have to love them but I figured you would still enjoy them and they are referenced everywhere!

I am really over the plum series and I am on like 13 or something. I have a few left I own to read but I have to be in a weird funk to pick one up.

  • JLQ I sympathise. I know that feeling of being so ready to have kids and yet knowing you aren't at the same time. Even now I know why we are still waiting and it makes sense but it sucks too. In time friend. In time :-).

You're soon!!  ::hugs::  I'm constantly plagued by those thoughts, too.

In time, jlq!  I know you can only be so ready for kids, but being the best ready you can be is good, too.

    ::GROUP HUG::
  • I don't know if you can ever be 100% ready for being a parent but you make it work. I too am excited for all of you to enter into this crazy thing called motherhood. It's amazing and fun and a challenge and such a growing opportunity. It also brings out a whole new love between you and dh which is awesome I think. Plus a man with his baby is hot I think :)
