Monday book club

What are you reading? What is your book goal for 2014?

Re: Monday book club

  • I'm reading Shadow Kissed - Richelle Mead (Vampire Acedemy #3).  REALLY good so far... but it talks about ghosts and freaks me out.  I'm a wuss.

Listening to Raven Boys - Maggie Steifvater.  It's good, I finally got into it.  I need to wrap it up since i have like 5 other audiobooks on my ipod!

My book goal is 60 again!

  • I'm reading Lover Revealed (BDB#4) and am enjoying it. I should finally finish up Under The Never Sky this week. These are books 2&3 for the year. My goal is 50. I'm trying to front load my books before the baby comes in case I don't get much reading in in the summer.

  • Still slowly chipping through Tina Fey's Bossypants. Haven't had too much time to read lately with how busy work has been.
At the very least I know it'll be done on the 22nd (I go in for allergy testing that day. The instructions say to bring a book or something to entertain you for about an hour)

Tried to at least set a reasonable goal of a book a month. It will definitely be a mood boost if I can get over 12 done this year.

  • I got a Kindle for Christmas and my goal is just to get back into reading regularly again. I'm psyched to finally be able to hang out in the book club threads with everyone!

Book #1 for 2014 was Ubik by Phillip K. Dick. I had seen it on a couple "best novels" and recommendation lists, so I decided to give it a go. Can't say it was worth the hype. I enjoyed it but didn't get attached to the characters and was able to easily predict the plot twists once I figured out what was going on. Worth a read if you enjoy classic sci-fi or are in the mood for something a little weird.

I'm now reading The Complete Guide to Being Evil by Laura Stephenson, and so far it's great. I met the author via National Novel Writing Month last year, and it's cool to read a published work by someone you know. I'll wait till I've finished to give a full endorsement, but I know there's some urban fantasy fans on this board who I suspect might enjoy this one.

  • I read The Last Boyfriend and The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts (Inn BoonsBoro books 2 and 3). I enjoyed them both despite the total predictability of them. I also read the Delirium novella Annabel, but I feel bad counting it as a book because it was like...30 pages. lol. Now I'm reading Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush book 2).

My reading goal for the year is 60. I'm doing well so far, but I'm sure once school actually starts back my reading will plummet. We were supposed to start back, but snow day today!!

  • I really started slacking 1/2 way through last year- but I plan to get back on track - dh bought me a new kindle ( the dog spilled coffee on my old one like a year or so ago) I just started reading the silver star by Jeannette wells. I can't judge it yet, I am only on pg 16 - I need to finish it by Thursday ( that's when my book club is meeting) my goal for this year is 50 ( wish me luck that was my goal for last year but I think I only read 30 something ill have to check on good reads! Maybe my new kindle will inspire me!
  • I'm still readingGone Girl.  It's just not doing it for me.  I set my goal for 30 this year, trying to not make Josh a total book widow this year.
  • I am reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. It is really good.

I also got Killing Jesus by Bill Orielly to listen to. I haven't put it on my iPod yet so I have to make sure it wasn't auto returned to the library. Lol.

My goal for this year is 30. It's less than last year but I still think that it is pretty impressive for myself.
