I need a good read?

It's been a while since we've done suggestions.

What are you reading?
What do you recommend?

I want something that I can get sucked into for a few days.

Re: I need a good read?

  • I just finished the Tiger's Wife- it was okay.

I really want to read Wally Lamb's latest book We Are Water, so that is next on my list.

I just finished Awkward B*tch. (it's an MS related book, so not one I'd just recommend for light reading or anything!) It was very interesting.

I recommend anything by Ted Dekker. The most recent one I read was Boneman's Daughters. It was intense. VERY good and kept me captive till the last word. He's in the suspense/thriller genre though so if you are looking for chick lit, I'm no help.. I find that stuff boring ;)

  • I'm reading Nothing to Envy by Barbara Demick. It's interesting! I've always found The DPRK fascinating, so I'm enjoying it.

Books I recommend that I finished in 2013: Firefly Lane (Chick Lit-ish, but I sobbed through the last 40 pages. Sobbed!)
    The Fault in Our Stars
Sharp Objects (if you loved Gone Girl, you'll like this)
    House Rules
    The Book Thief
    Defending Jacob (insane!)
TTC #1 since Feb. '12. dx: "unexplained" IF
After 2 shitty IVF cycles and 1 loss at 6+2 (EDD 11/7/14), DH and I are pursuing DIA.

  • @poppies717, I've read all the Gillian Flynn books, and Defending Jacob. Seems like we might have similar tastes!!

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'm off to start searching. I probably won't start tonight though, I have a massive migraine coming on. :-(
  • I still recommend Where'd You Go, Bernadette for a lighter read.

I have this on my kindle and tried to read it. I couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll go back and try again, it's been a few months since I first tried it.
  • Anything by Jhumpa Lahiri.  I cannot get enough of her. I stalk her webpage for new release dates.

I liked The Book Thief.  Right now I'm reading Things We Set on Fire.  I wasn't sure at first, but I'm really enjoying it now.

  • I always have 2 books going at all times. 1 audio and 1 paper/Kindle.
Audio right now: Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (halfway through, and am really enjoying it).
Kindle: Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (this one is a quick read, and more of a teen book but it's good also)

@rockabye I just looked up BoneMan's Daughters.  Yup, $1.99 for the Kindle.  Bought it.  That's right up my alley. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • I just read Sense & Sensibility by Joanna Trollope - it's a retelling of Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen, set in modern times.  It was okay, and I'm not sorry I read it, but I didn't think it was much more than that. :\

I'm currently reading Smart Couples Finish Rich, but I wouldn't exactly call it reading for fun :p

If you like that genre, check out his other stuff. My all time favorite books EVER are the Circle Series by him (Black, Red, White, and Green). They're amazing. I've also read a LOT of his other stuff. Definitely my favorite author :)

  • I just finished Thirteen Reasons Whyvand Speechless both reviews are in my good reads link. If you liked Twilight books or at least that kind of fantasy read, Dark Calling by Cheryl McIntyre was really good.
