Re: Wacky Wednesday Poll

  • 1) How is your New Year going?
OMG, not going well at all. My cell phone broke, my car battery died, I chipped my tooth, I got a bad cold, and I got food poisoning and it's only the 8th day of the damn year.

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?
I make goals and have a focus word. Goals are mostly writing-related, but also a gym goal that has been a little thwarted by all my sickness, but I'm trying. Focus word is balance. LOL

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?
I would just like a house. hahaa #HCOLproblems

  • 1) How is your New Year going? Lovely, so far.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? My resolutions were to get my style back and to lose weight. So far I have been on track with both. No less than five people have complimented my outfit today. And I have lost 4 lbs.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I would like to build myself a Hogwarts. I don't really care where, because it's Hogwarts.

  • 1) How is your New Year going?  Just another day.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? nope..  What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I don't know exactly what the exterior would look like but It would have a shit ton of built in bookcases everywhere (even the kitchen) and it would also have a shit ton of walk in closets (with built in shoe cubbies).  And I would pretty much want to build this new house on top of my current one.  I don't want to leave my neighborhood or my yard.

    1) How is your New Year going?  Fine.  Nothing new and exciting.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?  Yes, to not make resolutions.  They're only promises I can't keep.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?  A castle.  I would wear a tiara, even in the shower.  This will do nicely:

  • 1) How is your New Year going? Pretty good so far. Looking forward to the weekend away DH and I have planned for this weekend.

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? Yes. I want to lose some weight/get in shape (have not stuck to it, but we are going out of town this weekend so it would have been pointless to). I also want to read 40 books (eh, it's slow going because of work/school). I also want to be more of a positive person (it's going okay, though I'm about to post in the Vents post).

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I'm not too fancy. I'd love a house in my hometown. Big chunk of land because I have lots of family and we like to spend time outside. I'd have room for gardening, a pool, family football, riding the four-wheeler, bonfires, etc. I'd want a gorgeous kitchen, gas range with double ovens, a soaking tub in my master suite, and a huge library with beautifully stained built-in shelves and a big cozy reading chair and a table for coffee, etc. I'd want hardwood floors and cozy furniture/decor. I'd also want a big front porch and back deck for relaxing and grilling/entertaining. Wrap-around preferably. I'd want plenty of guest rooms so that our families could stay with us for holidays and stuff, which would of course be held in my awesome house.

  • 1) How is your New Year going?  Great so far!
    2) Do you make Resolutions?  What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? I want to find the non-mom and non-wife me again and get healthy.  I've been taking more time for me after I put my daughter to bed.  It's made a big difference so far.  I need to focus on meal planning to make healthier choices.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I don't care what it would like as long as it was somewhere warm!

    1) How is your New Year going? Aside from my kiddo's recurring ear infections making me lose sleep? Pretty good.

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? I made several and I've stuck to them pretty well so far. I resolved to go wheat and refined sugar free for the month of January and so far I've stuck to it 100% and lost 6lbs! My energy level has got a good boost too!

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I have a few different locations for "the dream house" in my head but all are remote, modest but comfortable size, eco-friendly and probably off the grid, set-up for entertaining and having guests (which is basically impossible in my current house). Most importantly... lots and lots of trees around me. I basically want an upscale cabin in the woods.

  • 1) How is your New Year going?  OK I guess.  It feels like an extension of last year.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?  I gave up making resolutions.  I wasn't able to keep them and it was just frustrating me all around.  Why put myself through it time and again?
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?  Hogwarts but near Gettysburg, PA.

  • 1) How is your New Year going? Good, so far.

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? No, what's the point. I'll never keep it. =)

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? Don't know where. I love the coastal towns but also like city life, like downtowns, where you can walk to just about everything. The house or townhome would have to have a reading nook/room (secret access would be awesome), built-in bookcases with room to grow, outdoor living space, and stairs into the kitchen. I have an obsession with staircases and access to the upper level of a house via the kitchen especially do it for me.

  • 1) How is your New Year going?  Eh. It's going. I caught a cold and am still not 100%, and work has been frustrating.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?  I never do. I have terrible self control, and an amazing propensity for guilt. That combination is disaster when I give myself "goals".
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?  A craftsman, with a HUGE wrap around porch. Inside I want lots of built ins. Built ins everywhere! And a chef's kitchen. And a library, or maybe two. It doesn't need to be huge inside, just room for books and the kitchen and a beautiful master suite. And I'd like it to be where I am now, at least within the suburban area I'm in. But I need tons of land, because I know me, and I want to rescue all the animals. They will need space.

    1) How is your New Year going? I got a Kindle for Christmas and have been bingeing on free/cheap pubs.  So while not very educational, it's been entertaining! On a worse note, my kids are sick enough with colds/coughs to keep home from school but not sick enough for them to be hyper and whiny with boredom. I'm also watching the Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl for the 803,475,234 time. Yay!
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? Not resolutions so much but I have several goals involving doing things around my house, using the space we have more effectively, etc. (with timelines! and milestones! ain't nesting grand?)
When my friends start posting resolutions I usually post something absurd.  I think my FB resolution this year was to eat more cupcakes. That I can probably keep. :)
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I want the Great Gatsby's house. That should do just fine.

    1) How is your New Year going?
Pretty craptastic.  On NYE I went to a funeral, I woke up with stomach pains on the first and was pretty under the weather for the first three days, on the second I found out an old friend had died due to foul play back in October and I had no idea, and our heat pump can't keep up with the cold weather so our house has been 53-55 degrees when we wake up each morning.  But my haircut today looks pretty nice, so there's that...

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? Nah, who needs that kind of pressure.  Life has enough stress right now.

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?  While I am keen on Neuschwanstein like @MrsJenE , it's unfinished on the inside, so that would be a bit of a bummer.  I would like a lovely cozy house smack in the middle of Central Park so I can live in NYC but still have the lovely greenspace.

  • 1) How is your New Year going? It could be better.  I started the new year with random new pains.  We think it may be food related inflammation, so yay...more food that I need to limit.  Traveled a lot of this past week, so I'm glad to be home.  That's a good thing because I was getting a little tired of being here last week.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? No official resolutions.  Just the usual, stick to eating better, bike riding and hiking more.  So far, not good, but eating better is hard on the road.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? In the woods with a lot of acres of land.  Large house in the middle of it.  Two stories and a basement.  Large kitchen with an island, cozy living room, space for my husband's band practice space, a bay window somewhere for reading, a window perfect for a Christmas tree, and a fireplace are the must haves for a dream home.  Mountains around but enough flat space for a pool and a small garden.

  • 1. It's going. It has not sucked, but it has not been amazing.

    2. My goals all have to do with mindfulness...no distracted eating, no dieting, a cash only spending and grocery money system. Continuing my morning gym habit and yoga on as many Mondays and Thursdays as I am able. Staying off the scale. I am doing pretty well with them, but I did step on the scale this morning. That is a hard habit to break!

    3. My house would be a Cape Cod, and it would be in this area but a little closer to work (there is a specific older neighborhood full of all-brick Capes that I love that is walking distance to my hospital). It would be a smaller house with a ton of upgrades...radiant heat floors, an awesome kitchen, lots of built-in bookshelves, a spa-ish bathroom, a big walk-in closet, a fireplace, a reading nook in the master bedroom (with a chair-and-a-half and ottoman). It would also have a big fenced-in yard so that my pets would have room to run outside, and there would be trees from which I could hang a rope hammock. And I would have more than just one cat and one dog living there with me.

  • 1) How is your New Year going? Okay.  Work sucks right now but otherwise things are good.  I got spoiled have almost two weeks off work and now all I want to do is stay home.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? Not really. : (
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I would love to have one of those log cabin homes and live up in the mountains somewhere.

  • 1) My year, beginning on NYE, has been garbage so far.
    2) I have some positive thoughts and reminders but no "resolutions" per se. I'm trying to be better in some areas, positive role model for my girls, being present with DH & family, etc. I've been rocking out at work with a newer mindset. I'm really hoping that the beginning of this year is not how the rest will go.
    3) I'd have a colonial style house with a view and noise of the ocean outside my bedroom window. I would be located less than five minutes from my work and a library. It could get cold but would not snow there.

  • 1.  Things are pretty good so far!  Last year was rotten, but this year is looking better already.

    2.  I mentioned this in another post... but quitting my day job in June is huge for me.  Will be concentrating on my business only.  (And being more present as a Mom.)  Can't wait.

    3.  I have HCOL blues, too.  I would LOVE to own a house within walking distance to my daughter's school. Cheapest is $3M.  Average is $5-8M.  Most expensive?  $22.8M (and it is actually kind of ugly!)   I'd be thrilled with something in the $5M range in that area.

  • This year has been okay so far. We have all been sick so hopefully we are on the end of that!

A few that have fallen aside due to sickness. Today we went to the pool so we are counting today as day one!

I love my new house, I would make it bigger, especially the kitchen. I would also close off my area in the basement for my library craft room with even more shelves than I currently have.
I would move said house to an even bigger piece of land (less farm fields more forest) with lots of walking trails and a pond.
  • 1) How is your New Year going? It was going well up until yesterday. I'm finally getting over my second cold/flu of the season and settling in to a new between semesters routine with the boys. Then yesterday I found out that one of my husbands co-workers that I also know either committed suicide or was killed this weekend. I guess the police are still investigating, but he was so young, maybe 25, and had so much going for him. It's hard to make sense of a world where something like this could happen.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far?
I'm doing headlight goals this year (which has absolutely nothing to do with not wearing a bra, in case you're wondering). Like I'm driving in the dark and just focusing on the things I can see in front of me in the headlights. I'm just shooting for a few small things at a time: writing a few short stories, being present and mindful in my time with my boys and my husband, eating healthier, moving more, taking time to play and make things.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?
My dream house would be like Howl's moving castle. It would have a door that led to work and the gym and my parents' house in California and my in-laws across town and my BIL and SIL and nephew's place in Germany and my best friend's apartment in Macau and Zion National Park so I'd never have to waste any time traveling to the places I want to go. It would be full of squashy chairs and couches and have a sunken living room with a pillow pit for the boys to play in.

  • 1. My new year is pretty blah so far.  It's going to get better though.

    2.  I haven't made resolutions for the past few years, but I decided that maybe I needed to this year.  I wrote them down in my journal.  Let's just say they are all works in progress.

    3.  It would have to be on the water somewhere with a pool and cabana boy. I would definitely need my own amazing, beautifully organized walk-in closet that is not to be shared with MH and a library with dark wood built-ins.

  • 1) How is your New Year going?  So far, so good.
    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? Yes, but they are more general this year. I want to eat less, exercise more and eat more fruits and veggies. I'm doing well with eating more fruits and veggies and exercising more. Still need to eat less and decrease the snacks.
    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be?  It would be one town over from where I am now- they have lower taxes and better schools than my current town. I would have a colonial, with a 3 car garage, 4-5 bedrooms, master bath w/soaking tub, shower and double sinks. Walk in master closet. Lots of closet space throughout. Full finished basement; laundry room on the first floor. Fireplace. Library/reading room. Patio. A work area for H's tools. Fenced in yard.

  • 1) How is your New Year going? Pretty much like I expected it to.  Not too bad, really.

    2) Do you make Resolutions? What's yours? Have you stuck to it so far? I do.  This year it was to use my resources more efficiently, meaning watching how much water, paper products, etc. I use and trying to recycle more.  And of course, eating better.

    3) If you could build any house, anywhere, for free with no obligations, what would it look like and where would it be? I wouldn't want to build a house, just find the perfect mid-sized English Cottage somewhere in the countryside and live it in part-time.  It would have miles of bookshelves and a window seat.  It has to have a window seat.  But I would settle for a nice house here in central ohio with a great kitchen.
