baby amccul20 is a

BOY!! all boy. he was showing the goods the entire time and they had a hard time getting a shot of anything else!

we're very excited. Now I just need to convice H that we're not naming him Bear.....

the appointment didn't start so well though. when we walked in for the a/s the tech said, well because you have a coagulation issue we can tell you the sex today but you'll have to have a level 2 u/s in 4 weeks to check everything else.  we were like um what? nobody ever told us about this. and of course she couldn't give us any answers. so at my 20 week appointment directly following the a/s the nurse practitioner said its probably nothing if I know that I don't have any sort of blood clotting issues, which I don't. she said alot of times when you come from an infertility doctor they do all sorts of blanket blood tests and it probably is nothing.  but I'm pissed my RE didn't tell me about this!!! my H is livid. and I don't blame my OB because the testing was done while I was still at the RE's.

and two of my H's brothers had coarctations of the aorta and so we also had to schedule a fetal echo cardiogram and a meeting with a genetic counselor.

but overall the baby looks good and is measuring right on. we saw all 4 chambers of the heart and the umbilical cord looks perfect. the brain and all other organs are where they're supposed to be and developed properly. so somewhat stressful but I left feeling OK about everything and happy I get to see baby again in a month.

  • I find it so odd they would only mention this now after you've been in for several appts already. Sorry you had that thrown at you, but I'm sure the next u/s will clear everything up for you.

FX that the echo is all clear, too. I'm sure you're anxious knowing the steps you need to take because of family risk, but it's good to get everything checked out thoroughly and be sure baby is healthy and sound in there!

And again...CONGRATS on your little boy!!!

I'm sorry the appt started out rough, but many times something looks abnormal at one appointment and ends up resolving itself as baby cooks more. Fx that the echo shows that everything is a-ok!

  • Yay, congrats in your little boy! Glad all looks well. Sorry that they just sprung all that other stuff in you though. FX everything is great and just another chance to get a peek at your LO.

And I think Bear is an adorable NN. Like you said, he'll have a more formal name legally, so it's not the same as naming him Bear.

  • Why was I thinking you already said you were having a boy? Maybe I'm crazy...

Anyway! Congrats on team blue, I'm sorry it didn't go perfect, but FX all the test are good.

I think Bernard with the nn Bear is cute. Plus when he gets older, maybe he won't like it and will want to be called something else. I went to school with someone we called Izzo and it wasn't till I became friends with his cousin did I learn his name was David.

  • Congrats on your baby boy! How exciting :)

The info dump from the tech must have been a lot to take in. I'm sure the follow up u/s and echo will go great! And I agree with skreedrake about only having to wait 4 weeks rather than 20 for results of the u/s. I'm sure he'll ace it!

  • Welcome to Team Blue! At least you know your LO isn't shy ;)

I'm sorry to hear about the other news. GL with the level 2. I had one done to check for NTDs because they can be caused by the meds I take. They actually can be really neat and provide a lot of reassurance. They go over every inch of the baby's body (including blood flow to and from organs) Our tech even counted the fingers and toes for us so we "don't have to do it when he comes out." Lol.

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you!

the lady that did my scan yesterday said that she also does the level 2 u/s and explained the process, so that was nice.  I asked her about counting the fingers and toes and she showed me what she could yesterday and said we'd get a better look at the next scan!

and I like the idea of not having to worry about those things when the baby comes out!

  • When I had DD the first thing I did was look at her face and then I counted her fingers and toes. Lol. I don't know why but I did.
