Rec Your Blender...

Not exactly MM, but I'm not sure where else to post. I will probably repost this in Health and Fitness too.

Cost isn't an issue. Primary use will be protein shakes...a few times per day. So I need something that will stand the test of time and frequent use.

Re: Rec Your Blender...

  • I don't know if you can still get them, but we've had an old Emeril Lagasse blender that has lasted H since 2004. I also like the Magic Bullet, we got as a wedding gift four years ago. I like that you only have to wash one small glass and they give you several cups in different sizes. Plus it came from Bed Bath and Beyond, if it ever breaks we can take it back anytime!
  • We have a ninja- it was about $100 at macys.. works great. We put kale in all of our smoothies and it blends it really well- my kids love them and they don't realize how many veggies are in their smoothies. It washes really easy and it doesn't take up a ton of space.

The only issue we had was for blackberries and their huge seeds.. didn't pulverize them like we had hoped, so we just run it through a strainer before drinking it.

  • I think the Vitamix is the gold standard for blenders - but those are like $500.

H and I also use a Ninja, and we've been satisfied with it.

I hope you don't mind a newbie like me posting...

I received a Ninja as a gift about 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. I initially wanted a Vitamix, but those are crazy expensive and my Ninja seems to work pretty well for me. I make smoothies in it at least once every other day. and it's been great for soups and things as well. I recently saw them at Costco for around $100, and they came with a food processor attachment or something, which looked kind of nifty. I think I've also seen them on QVC or one of those tv shopping networks for about the same price. Good luck!

Edited because I can't spell today!
  • I will say this for the vitamix - I've seen demos for them at Costco, and the people doing the demos are always able to make ice cream or sorbet in less than a minute with them because they blend so quickly and so well.  It's sort of amazing, actually.  Costco has them a few times a year for something like $350 or $400, so that's a pretty good price for that brand.

I sort of have this dream about secretly feeding my hypothetical future children vegetables in their ice cream...  Totally doable if you have a vitamix.

I think they might come with a warranty too, so that could be good if you're going to use it multiple times a day.  You will burn out the motors on the less expensive ones with that much use.  My parents use a blender once a day for smoothies and they burned out a Ninja in about 15 months.

  • OK I'm reading that they come with 5-7 year warranties.  That could be worth it, because you will probably spend more than that replacing the $100 ones over that time frame if you keep it up.

Definitely check costco - you might be able to find them for a better price now and then, but Costco probably has the best "off the shelf" price if you want to buy new.

    Damn, now I want a vitamix :)

  • My H makes smoothies everyday with our Magic Bullet. I like the convenience of the single cups in different sizes. Makes cleaning them so much easier (I do not have a dishwasher).

  • My vitamix is the love of my life. I use it about 2 times per day. I make 95% of my food from scratch and it helps me accomplish that. For me, it's worth every penny. Soups, sorbets, milks and smoothies are what I make. I'm going to use it for baby food when I have a kid.

I love that it automatically shuts off if it's going to overheat, so it's hard to break it.
  • Another option for a slightly more affordable Vitamix is to buy refurbished from the company. I don't have one yet, but it's definitely on my want list!
  • Great! These three brands keep coming up as high reviews at Amazon. I think the Vitamix is probably out of my price range (I know I said no cost limit, but more than $150 is too much for me).

And, I am going to buy whatever it is from BB&B as they do have a good return policy.

    So, Ninja or Magic Bullet!

  • My mom loves her magic bullet....I've never had any issues with making protein shakes on my boring normal blender :)  Frozen fruit, protein powder, and water is all I've ever made mine with

  • I bought a ninja a few months ago and have been very satisfied! It has individual cups you can attach
  • @bparkhur Where do you find those individual cups at?  Mine just has the large container, and it seems like a lot of space for just a morning smoothie.

    I hear ya.

Unfortunately, we have a "normal" Kitchen Aid. I used to think this brand was great, but I have had a blender, hand mixer, and also a manual can opener all break or die on me after not very much use. The hand mixer was a wedding gift and we used it maybe 6 times. Dead. The can opener became misaligned even after infrequent use. Dead. The blender still blends but it's about to go...the black rubber toothed spinny thing that rotates the blade is falling apart. About to be dead.

  • Omg I am so in love with my Vitamix! It is a life changer. We save so much on making our own almond milk, coconut milk, nut butters, hummus, and so much more! Over your LCD it will pay for itself. Buy at Costco!

  • We love our Vitamix. Check out QVC, they sell them too at a lower price I think then normal retail.

  • Another ninja lover. I used to have a magic bullet, but I don't think it blended as well. Kale was always chunky.

My ninja has a full blender and individual to go cups, which is very convenient.
