choosing an agent

I moved to a small town unfamiliar to me 3 years ago into a small starter home that my husband had already owned. We have outgrown and are looking to sell ours and purchase a larger home in the same county. No-one in our family has any recommendations and my husband's last agent isn't here anymore. I have never been through the process as I had always rented in a college town.

What is key in looking for an agent? I don't know what to ask or look for in an agent who will do a great job listing ours and being able to be our advacate while buying.

Re: choosing an agent

  • That's tough.  We went with an agent my best friend worked for for years, and I had know 15 years personally.  It's so wonderful and important to have an agent you can trust.  I would try searching the National Association of Realtors, Yelp.com, or even asking facebook friends for recommendations.  At least that could be a starting point.

  • Another way to find agents.....go to open houses!  We pretended to be potential buyers of open houses (we had no interest in any of them), just to get a feel for the agent's personality, work, etc.  Most of the agents we met just didn't feel right for us, but after the 4th open house we met an agent who we knew would be perfect for us.
