TX ladies

@aggiebug @LadyMacaron

Okay ladies, we finally got our plane tickets so now I'm trying to figure out our agenda and what to see while we're down there.
We'll be flying down on a Friday and driving from Houston to CS. I expect Fri to be full of family stuff, Sat is the wedding, Sun probably more family togetherness. We'll definitely be checking out the George Bush Library and Museum while in the area.
Monday through Saturday morning we can explore (we have a 3:30 flight out of Houston on Sat).

First - I have all your suggestions from my previous post and I thank you both so much
Second - Do you think it would be worth it to go up to Dallas & Fort Worth, or do you think that's pushing it? I'm not afraid of it being a lot of driving just that we won't be giving things enough time.

Re: TX ladies

  • Sorry!  I've been MIA from the board for a little while, but I think Dallas will probably be too much if you are going to Austin and San Antonio.  It's 3.5 hours north of Houston, and in the opposite direction of San Antonio and Austin from CS.  While you are in Houston, you can totally visit me though!  I looked at your previous post, and really hope that the bluebonnets are out for you (depending on the weather sometimes the best blooms are in April) because the drive from Houston to CS is so pretty!

  • that's what I figured, I'll have to talk to DH and see what's important to him to squeeze in.
I would love to meet up with you while I'm there! We'll have to figure something out once it gets closer.

  • Postjacking, but you should totally see the Space Center in Houston.

  • Yay!  I too recommend skipping DFW on this trip that adds a lot of time for
    Little value.

    CS places to eat:
Koppe bridge. Its a yummy burger joint.
Hullabaloo Diner in Wellborn. It was on Diners drive is and dives and has super yummy breakfast stuff.
The Dixie Chicken. Its on North gate and is the most famous joint in town (burgers again)
If you like pizza may try double Dave's pizza rolls they are yummy and kind of different. (Not a must see)
Blue Baker has super yummy sandwiches, soups, bread and cookies.

    Things to do.
Blue bell tour in Brenham ( near cs) is fun. The ice cream is amazing.
The bonfire memorial on A&M campus is really neat and there is free parking at the entrance ( beware of parking on campus they are crazy)
The MSC in central campus is also pretty cool.

As far as things to do outside of cs the previous post has a lot of excellent suggestions for Austin and SA so I won't add much. If you specific questions I could give some advice.

The space center Houston is an awesome place. You can spend a lot of time there almost a full day if you want.

    For food:
The Salt Lick is an awesome BBQ joint outside of Austin.
Torchys tacos is very popular as is the Oasis (live music on the lake)

LA Fogata is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant period. Its I. San Antonio
Most of the food on the river walk is pretty good, but pretty touristy. The river walk is fun though.

The Grist Mill in Gruene Tx is super yummy and the town is classic hill country tx. Pretty fun to just kick around and shop.
New Braunfels is known for its czech food. Its yummy.
The Pappas restaurants are all super yummy TX chain. Pappadeauxs, pappacitas
You must try Kolaches while in TX. I don't care if it is in CS, SA or Austin. Just eat some for me :)

If you spend any time in Houston let me know. That opens a whole new can of worms!

  • I third skipping dallas, and I second going to the Grist Mill in Gruene, TX. You are going to love your trip!

Along with my other recommendations, you have to eat breakfast tacos in Austin, from Tacodeli. So yummy. Do not miss it! And try the Doña sauce, it will change your life. Breakfast tacos are what TX runs on.
  • I second most of the suggestions for food in the different places. I love the Dixie Chicken, Torchys Tacos, and the Grist Mill. You must have breakfast tacos while you are here. I'm getting hungry just thinking about everything!

  • I love breakfast tacos. Usually I get them at random little places so its hard to suggest a place.

Unless you happen to go to Wimberley then I have a must eat taco :-)

  • you guys have a Sea World? I've never been!

Also, I'm going to spend the next 2 months thinking about breakfast tacos now, they sound like a dream meal for me.

Thank you all so much again, DH and I are going to sit this weekend and figure out an itinerary.
