Birthday ideas?

I need help. Teddy's first birthday is next week and we're having a party for our families on the 19th. I originally was just going to have my parents come here for cake and ice cream but no one really liked that idea so now we're having a party. H has a pretty huge family so it'll be a decent amount of people. What should I do?! What theme should I have?

I don't know if it's because we aren't in our own house right now or the fact that T will have ZERO idea that it's even his birthday, but I am just so not into this which I hate because I always said that, if I had a child who had a birthday anywhere near Christmas, I would make it extra special since my birthdays always sucked. I'm just so burnt out from moving and Christmas that I have no ideas for this...

For M's first birthday I did a Sock Monkey theme. It was "different" and not a cartoon character which I know is what he will want from now on. I have a whole board on Pinterest from back when I was planning it. If you find a theme, go to etsy. You can pay like $20 and get a PDF file where you can print basically all your decorations if it's something you can find at Walmart. Pinterest has tons of ideas though.

With that being said, I'm just doing cake and icecream for M's which is in a few weeks lol.

This is a little different but for Annabelle's birthday this year I did a breakfast/brunch party. I found it easier to make the typical breakfast foods like pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon etc than coming up for a full menu to serve to people. As appetizers we had fresh fruit, cheese and cold cuts. You can still have cake or breakfast muffins. It was really fun and people enjoyed coming for a late breakfast. Since the 19th is a Sunday it could be nice to have a brunch party so you guys have everyone out of your hair by the afternoon and have the rest of the day to clean up and relax.

What time are you having it? Could you just do some snacks and cake? As far as a theme for M's first birthday, I just went to Fulton paper and picked one of the first birthday ones. I liked the Minnie mouse. She was not really "into" anything so I didn't stress. The only thing I bought were invites, small plates, napkins , centerpiece and horns. my mom made a Minnie cake. For decorations, I just did some balloons. I figured other people won't notice and she was too little to care.

I think Alek's idea is a great one. Breakfasty type things are easy and if you do it early enough everyone will still have most of their Sunday to do whatever so they will probobly be gone by early afternoon. Then you will have the rest of the day to chill.

Just do a basic non-themed party with colorful streamers, some balloons, and food tags on the tables. Bright colors will go a long way when decorating for that kind of thing. Thats what we did for Chase's first. No theme, just a bunch of bright decorations. There is a party store in Middletown by the Acme.

For L's I just did everything pink since I didn't know she was a girl and everything in her life so far was neutral. I did a bbq bc it was the summer. What about just ordering some sandwich trays?

I second the sandwich trays. Or even get a bunch of large subs from capriottis and slice them up and make your own. Sometimes it's cheaper that way. A couple pizza for the kids and some dip and chips, you should be good to go.

Thanks ladies! I think I'm going to hit Fulton Paper today, buy a ton of blue stuff, and call it a day.

The breakfast idea sounds wonderful but party is at 2 so I'm thinking snacks, cake, and ice cream. Sound good?

if the party is at 2:00 you can def just do snacks and cake/ice cream. thats a great time because nobody will be expecting a meal

Snacks & cake/ice cream are totally fine. We had a super small party for Rory this year, two weeks after the fact, and grabbed a sandwich tray from Costco & a giant cookie from the mall. He loved it.

My random, childless .02 - Sometimes I think it's good to not have a theme. When I was little, every single time I had a theme party ALL of my presents went along with the theme. I ended up getting 8 Ariel dolls the year I had a Little Mermaid birthday party. While I did (and still do) love that movie, that's a little excessive.
