The Giver movie - book spoilers
So, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how they are going to visually make this movie. No one in the community, including Jonas, can see color. But they don't KNOW they can't see color until Jonas realizes he can.
I don't think black and white at the beginning will work because then the audience realizes that there is something wrong/no color. And the fun of the book is discovering this along with Jonas. I love telling my students to go back after Jonas makes this discovery and look at how Lois Lowry uses NO colors in her description of things at all. It's all pale/dark/shade/etc. I think a B&W into color movie would totally ruin this effect.
I just think it will be so hard to capture visually and get the same emotional impact.
