Anyone familiar with buying a court owned house?

Has anyone had to deal with the court system when it came to buying a house?

We started our house hunting process a few months ago and the one that won us over is apparently owned by the court as the result of a bankruptcy by the ownersf. We found that detail out about a few weeks ago from the realtor representing the house.

I'm just mildly venting because we have not gotten to see the property yet. Due to it being January in Pennsylvania, we keep getting tons of snow. The court refuses to pay for snow removal for the property--even for potential buyers. Ugh.

  • The house is either in pre-foreclosure or in foreclosure.  They will pay for NOTHING so keep your expectations in check as you go foreward as to what they will "do for you".
  • PP's are right, however this also means that you will pay the rock bottom price.  If something huge comes up in the inspection they are more likely to make a deal because they will have to disclose any issues to future buyers. If you have an aggressive enough realtor they should be able to get you in to see the house.  Good luck!

    This was my first thought.  Unless the house isn't visible due to being burried under a snowdrift, walk through the snow and see the house.  Don't let not having cleanly shoveled walkways stop you.

    That's all the realtor's decision on the snow thing. Not mine. Trust me. I don't mind driving through the stuff as long as there is not ice. I guess he's mostly worried about people getting stuck. After dealing with Pennsylvania winters for 25 years, I have basically everything I need to get out of such things. Not my fault he's not prepared. They're calling for 50 degree temps tomorrow, so I jumped on that opportunity immediately and contacted him. We plan to see the house on Sunday after I am done with work.

    I'm not in the area where it is located all the time or I would possibly look at it more. I know how that one goes--I didn't have a choice but to drive by the rental house i'm currently living in since it is literally up the road from my job. I'd go to get lunch and see it. 
    Anyway, DH and I have drove by the house for sale before on the way back from visiting my parents. It is off a fairly big main road connected by a long driveway leading up into the woods where the house is located. There are no real sidewalks or walkways or anything interconnecting it otherwise.
