Dog owners: how often do you vacuum?

And do you allow your dog(s) on the bed?

Re: Dog owners: how often do you vacuum?

  • Too often!!!    If she wasn't afraid of the vacuum, I'd vacuum her too!  She has short white hair and they just get stuck in everything.  And yes, she is allowed on the couch and our bed - it was a habit she had before we adopted her and have not really tried too hard to break.  Thankfully our duvet cover is white.  We are working on training her not to jump up on the couch but it's not going to well!

One thing I think that I have found helps is if I vacuum on the diagonal.  If I vacuum with the direction of the fabric, it just pushes the hair through the fabric but diagonal seems to pull out a little better.

  • I vacuum once every 2 weeks. But we have a lot of hardwood, so I also sweep/Swiffer pretty frequently.

We used to let the dog sleep with us, but now she is banned from the beds. She is permitted on the sofas - they are microsuede so her fur does not get stuck in the fabric.

She is a beagle so she sheds but not as much as some other dogs.

  • We vacuum just about every day. We have two lab mixes that shed a lot. They aren't allowed on the bed, but they do sometimes go on the couch.
  • Every day, I also sweep/swiffer daily.  We have a lab/cattle dog mix that I love, but man is he a shedder! To be fair, we also have two little boys so that does contribute to the messiness.  Our dog is not allowed on the bed or sofa.

  • I've heard that if you take laundry out and shake it out before it goes to the washer it really helps with pet hair.  Has anyone tried this?  I haven't yet because honestly it just seems like a pain, but if it really works I could make the effort.
We have 2 cats as well.  Even with the hardwood floors vacuum every other day, and a wipe down of the stairs with a damp paper towel.  We have one area rug that the dog and one of the cats trade off rubbing their heads all over - it gets vacuumed every day.
  • I vacuum about once a week and the couches every couple weeks. We don't have little ones on the ground, otherwise I might be a little more worried.
  • We vacuum every week and the couch once a month.  It's amazing just how much a beagle sheds.  Plus, we have a new vacuum which gets up stuff the other one was missing.

Most of the time, he sleeps in the bed with us, but always on top of the comforter.  Luckily, we use a duvet cover, so washing it is mostly easy.

  • Our house gets vacuumed about once every two weeks, but our yorkies really don't shed.

  • I do a quick vacuum and swiffer once a week. I deep clean every other week.
  • We vacuum twice a week (2 short-haired cats and one Dalmatian).  That fine-short white hair from the dog gets into everything.  We have couch covers we wash once a month, I vacuum the couch while the covers are off.

  • Daily, the little one sleeps in the bed but she is not a shedder, there is not enough room for everyone to be in the bed (plus I dont like the hair).
  • I try to every weekend but its usually every other weekend. But the dog fuz tends to gather near the walls and corners in our living room i guess since we have hardwood floors so i'll go through with our small handheld vaccum and get the fur balls that have gathered whenever i notice them.

  • Ugh at least every other day. We have a golden retriever who sheds like crazy. We also have a toddler and newborn so I have to stay on top of it.
  • We too have a Roomba for pet hair. I love it!!! So I vacuum everytime I remember to turn it on when I leave. I try everyday but it usually ends up about 4x a week. Then I mop the floors like once a week. Dusting is my problem with these pets. LOL I swear I could dust everyday!!! Crazy! And no, our pets do NOT sleep with us. The dog has her own room. Lol she goes in and out as she pleases.
